Guns ‘N Roses
This rock ‘n roll band hasn’t played an American music festival in ages and it’s their first appearance in Austin in 25 years so Austin City Limits attendees are in for something seriously memorable. Expect Slash in his iconic hat and lots of ecstatic fans screaming the lyrics of “Paradise City” and “Welcome to the Jungle.” Heck, you could even bring your parents to this one! It’s their first-ever performance at ACL, so you’ll definitely want to be there to support these rock legends.
Mumford & Sons
This British indie rock band is best known for their breakout single “I Will Wait,” but they’ve been a festival favorite for years and they’re ACL alumni, having performed in 2016. Heavy on the strings – think banjo, guitar, double bass, and cello – hits like “Little Lion Man” and “The Cave” will definitely get festivalgoers bouncing around. They’re sure to play all the fan favorites as well as some stuff from their latest album Delta. It’s the perfect kind of fun, outdoor, day-drinking music!
After he missed out on the festival last year due to a foot injury, this actor turned hip hop artist is making it up to Austin City Limits in October. Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino is able to get under your skin (in a good way) with his socially aware, groovy hits like “Redbone,” “This is America,” and “V. 3005.” He’s also got a couple summertime anthems that festivalgoers are sure to sway to, like “Feels Like Summer” and “Summertime Magic. And he’s got tons of personality up on stage!
Headed up by the creepy, goth, make-up wearing frontman Robert Smith – hey, it’s a look! – this English rock band has hits dating back to the 80s. You’ll be singing along to “Boys Don’t Cry,” “Just Like Heaven,” and “Friday I’m in Love” before you even know what’s happening. They know how to create a fun set to entertain big crowds too – The Cure has been all over festival posters this year!
Psychedelic, electronic, instruments, vocals – Tame Impala is a music “project” headed up by Australian Kevin Parker. Accompanied by the band Pond, they’ve developed quite a following with their unique sound and accompanying colorful light shows. After killing it at Coachella, they’ve continued to headline music festivals around the world. Check them out for hits like “Elephant,” “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” and “The Less I Know The Better.”
Billie Eilish is the answer to the question “Exactly how fast can you get famous?” This 17-year-old is probably the most popular teenager in the country right now. Her album When we all fall asleep, where do we go? is catchy, smooth, sexy, and eerie all at the same time. This “Bad Guy” singer is hitting festivals from America to Europe and back this summer and fans are following her every move. No reason to think that’ll change over her two weekends at Austin City Limits! Get there early, the stage will be packed!
Cardi B – Weekend 1 // Robyn – Weekend 2
Here’s the kicker.
These two secondary headliners won’t be there on both weekends, so choose your tickets wisely. Do you want to hear the ridiculously popular, in-your-face raps of the beloved queen Cardi B or do you want to live out your teenage dreams of seeing Robyn perform “Show Me Love” and “Dancing on My Own” live on stage? It’s up to you. Either way, you’re sure to get some fierce female performances and festivalgoer sing-alongs out of these two!
Kacey Musgraves, Lizzo, 21 Savage, The Raconteurs, Gary Clark, Jr. – And More!
Kacey Musgraves made waves this year with her Grammy-winning album Golden Hour and her festival-hopping schedule and tour. The crossover country singer has been hitting the road hard and snapping up more than just country fans these day with her retro sounds, fabulous songwriting, and amazing vocals.
The Raconteurs haven’t played a festival in a hot minute and they’ve got some new music out now for the first time in 10 years. Jack White is taking the lead vocals on “Sunday Driver” and Brendan Benson does “Now That You’re Gone.” When you’re craving some real rock music and guitar riffs, be sure to check out The Raconteurs.
Singer-rapper-inspiration Lizzo has also blasted to fame with her hits like “Juice” and “Good as “Hell” and the epic album Cuz I Love You. Her attention-grabbing twerking and surprise flute-playing at live events as of late has gotten her just as many new fans as her body positivity and motivating lyrics.
To add a little more hip hop in your festival experience, you’ll want to check out London-to-Atlanta rapper 21 Savage. Wonder if he’ll team up with Cardi B for a rendition of “Bartier Cardi”?
If you haven’t heard of Gary Clark, Jr., get thyself to Austin City Limits to see him in action! The unique, bluesy Grammy winner might be most famous for his cover of “Come Together” – at least according to Spotify – but he’s got gems like “Bright Lights” and “Things Are Changin’” to keep audiences grooving. His blend of soul, pop, psychedelic, and hip-hop notes are incredible, plus he’s got the skills to impress guitar freaks – whether he’s on acoustic or electric!
Don’t sleep on those acts farther down on the lineup poster either! (Lookin’ at you, Misterwives!) You never know when you’ll find a new favorite!
