Love Him Or Hate Him, Alex Rodriguez is Still Smashing Records

If one were to take a poll of 100 baseball fans anywhere outside of NYC (and perhaps even in the five boroughs), New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez would probably come out as one of the most hated players in Major League Baseball. Whether it’s his attitude, his supermodel girlfriends or his use of performance-enhancing drugs, people seem to root against the controversial star.

None of this changes the fact that he could be the greatest baseball player in the history of the game. As if his resume for the title needed any help, A-Rod just passed Barry Bonds to move into the No. 2 spot on MLB’s all-time RBI list–

The RBI to pass Bonds–and the 1,997th ribby of A-Rod’s illustrious career–came on a single off of Los Angeles Angels pitcher Jered Weaver. Rodriguez had three other hits in the game, which also moved the slugger to within single digits of career hit No. 3,000. That’s not all; the third baseman/DH also found himself climbing up another list of all-time leaders in the game–

After passing Barry Bonds on RBI list earlier tonight, Alex Rodriguez also passed Stan Musial for 8th on the all-time runs list with 1,950.

So to summarize, Mr. Rodriguez passed Bonds and Stan Musial in the history books, is approaching 3,000 hits and led his team victory in the process. Say what you will about the Rodriguez, the soon-to-be 40-year-old still has game. Love him or hate him, that game places him shoulder and shoulder with the best men to ever play his sport.
