Calvin Harris and Sam Smith Drop Music Video for “Promises”
Calvin Harris and Sam Smith celebrate Vogueing and New York City’s iconic dance culture in their music video for the grooving single “Promises“. Directed by Emil Nava, the video is shot in a warehouse-turned dance club, and features model Winnie Harlow alongside many Voguers strutting cat walks, rooftops, and clubs. You can check out the glittering video for “Promises” below.
The catchy, upbeat single benefits from the visuals, which remind us that dance club culture has historically acted as a safe haven for marginalized individuals. “Growing up in the Bronx you have to carry this tough skin,” one dancer says in the opening sequence. “Finding Vogue, it allowed me to express myself in a way that I couldn’t express myself anywhere else.”
“Promises” follows Harris’ collaboration with PartyNextDoor, “Nuh Ready Nuh Ready”, as well as the Dua Lipa-assisted “One Kiss.” It appears that Calvin Harris successfully dominated another Summer with his singles. Meanwhile, Sam Smith continues his “Thrill Of It All” Tour, now winding up the West Coast and to Canada.
