North Denver 

North Denver has many attractions, including the Denver Botanic Gardens, 16th Street Mall, and an array of food and drink options like Blue Moon Brewing Company, as well as the River North Arts District. One of the most popular venues you should check out in this area is the Oriental Theatre. 

1. Oriental Theatre 

A truly classic theatre, this venue is one of Denver’s oldest and finest. The Oriental Theatre first opened its doors in 1927 before shutting down forty years later. The theatre didn’t open its doors again until 2005 when it became a live music venue. The venue showcases talent from around the world and appeals to a broad spectrum of interests, including comedy, music, and film.

The theatre doesn’t have its own parking lot, so plan in advance. If you plan to drive, on-street parking is relatively friendly here. 

South Broadway 

South Broadway is a Denver neighborhood that offers ample attractions and has a strong nightlife. For a chill night out, you can’t go wrong with checking out the concert halls that South Broadway offers. 

2. Gothic Theatre 

The Gothic Theatre is another one of Denver’s older venues. The venue first opened its doors in the 1920s and started out as a movie theater. 

3. Hi-Dive

Hi-Dive is a musician-owned club and has a more modern vibe than the concert venues previously mentioned. The venue hosted many local and international talents. The Hi-Dive first opened its doors in 2003 and continues to provide a great space for music enthusiasts.  

4. Herman’s Hideaway

Similar to Hi-Dive, Herman’s Hideaway is a live music venue dedicated to nurturing Denver’s local music scene. It’s also one of the city’s longest-running independent live music venues. Many talents have performed at this venue, including The Fray

Congress Park 

A mostly residential neighborhood, Congress Park is one of Denver’s greenest spaces, with Cheesman Park, the botanic garden, and Congress Park all steps away. Despite its mostly residential status, the neighborhood is also fairly close to downtown and offers an array of food options. 

5. Lost Lake Lounge

6. Lion’s Lair

The Lion’s Lair is one of Denver’s longest-running live music venues. The venue is your classic rock dive bar, showcasing what Denver’s got in terms of rock music. Dance the night away here and take advantage of the bar’s happy hour. 

7. Bluebird Theatre

Another one of Denver’s oldest venues, the Bluebird Theater, opened its doors in 1913 and had a brief stint as a movie theater. Owned by AEG, the music venue boasts many international and cross-country ties.

Golden Triangle 

For a centrally located area with lots of attractions, look no further than Denver’s Golden Triangle. The area is home to the Kirkland Museum of Fine Art, the Denver Mint, the public library, and Civic Center Park. 

8. Club Vinyl

Club Vinyl is the place to go for those looking for a high-energy night out. The venue has four floors and a nightly lineup of some of the best local DJs. The venue is also known for its rooftop LGBTQ parties.

9. Bar Standard

Bar Standard is another venue that offers entertainment if you’re looking for a high-energy night out with friends. It has a rooftop deck and primarily plays Latin and electronic music. 

10. Temple Nightclub

One of the standout clubs located in the Mile High region, Temple Nightclub markets itself as a club for artists by artists. The club hosts a plethora of touring DJs inside its large club and even offers bottle service. Expect to hear primarily EDM here. 

Capitol Hill

Capitol Hill is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city of Denver, populated by Victorian-era mansions. Capitol Hill has many attractions, including the Denver Art Museum. It’s one of the less friendly parking areas in Denver, so plan accordingly. 

11. Ogden Theatre

The Ogden Theatre is another one of Denver’s older live music venues. Like many of the others on this list, Ogden Theatre first started out as a movie theatre, opening its doors in 1913. The venue is for general admission only and often sells out its 1,600 capacity quickly.

12. Black Box

Known as the headquarters of Denver’s underground music community, the Black Box is known for being a haven for those looking to party until midnight. The venue has a smoking patio and primarily hosts an array of bass-heavy electronic music. 

13. Fillmore Auditorium

The Fillmore Auditorium opened its doors in the early 1900s, making it one of Denver’s oldest venues. Fillmore Auditorium is just steps away from Ogden Theatre and hosts a variety of EDM tracks for its patrons. Not only is Fillmore Auditorium one of the oldest venues in Denver, but it’s also one of the largest indoor venues in the state. 

14. Your Mom’s House 

Your Mom’s House is a great venue to check out and not only because of its perfect name but also because it provides one of the perfect dive bar experiences. The club also showcases a mix of genres for those seeking something less EDM. 

Five Points

Home of the Five Points Jazz Festival, Five Points is another of Denver’s older neighborhoods. The neighborhood is known as the city’s historical jazz hub. 

15. Roxy Theatre

The Roxy Theatre is a classic live music venue with a gritty aesthetic known for hosting a variety of hip-hop acts. Unlike some of the venues on this list, Roxy Theatre is an all-ages venue. The venue has a full bar and is relatively small, with a 500-seating capacity. 

Downtown 

Downtown and Lower Downtown (also called LoDo) are fantastic places for some more urban activities. The area boasts many attractions like Larimer Square, Coors Field, and Union Station. 

16. Perplexiplex (Meow Wolf)

If you want to go somewhere whimsical, look no further than The Perplexiplex at Meow Wolf. Meow Wolf is an art space as much as it is a cool live show venue. For live shows, you’ll have to purchase tickets. During the day, Meow Wolf is a surreal walkthrough experience and even has a story arc. This is definitely one of the places you should check out if you’re in the area. 

17. Dazzle  

If you want to check out a place that offers something that’s not as frenetic as the high-energy clubs like Club Vinyl and Temple Nightclub, but you don’t want to hit a dive bar, check out Dazzle. Dazzle opened its doors in 1997 and quickly became one of the most notable jazz clubs in Denver and even the world. It received many accolades for the quality of its offerings through its years in business, including a mention in Downbeat Magazine’s list of the top 100 jazz clubs in the world. 

Parking is available in the nearby independence plaza lot for a fee, and there is also street parking available. 

River North Arts District 

One of Denver’s newest developed neighborhoods, the River North Arts District, also known as Rhino, is one the top areas for exploring the city’s nightlife. The district is also part of the city’s historic Five Points neighborhood and boasts a host of nightclubs, bars, boutique shops, and street art. 

18. Nocturne 

Another jazz supper club that deserves mention is Nocturne. The jazz club opened in 2017 and is the top venue to check out for those wanting a pure jazz sound. The club showcases the absolute best in jazz talent just about every night and even hosts a residency program that runs up to eight weeks. 

If you plan to drive, there is only street parking available nearby, but around this area, it’s not the most accessible. Ridesharing is recommended.
