UPDATE 5/2: Last month, Ariana Grande returned with the first single off her forthcoming album, “No Tears Left to Cry“. This past Tuesday on Fallon, Ariana Grande announced her new album will be titled Sweetener, and is set to drop this Summer—no official release date has been announced. Sweetener will feature contributions from Pharrell, who has worked with Grande in the past. Song titles include “R.E.M.”, “Raindrops”, “The Light Is Coming”, and “God Is a Woman”.
Ariana Grande has been fairly removed from the spotlight since the end of her Dangerous Woman tour, which was interrupted last May by the bombing at her Manchester show. Miraculously, Ariana Grande resumed her Dangerous Woman tour the next month, but not without begin affected by the horrible incident. Since, we’ve seen a more politically engaged side of Ariana Grande, a change which—according to Variety—has manifested in the lyrical content of her upcoming album.
Now, Ariana Grande has taken to Twitter to clue her followers into incredible news: A new single will be dropping this Friday, April 20th. According to her tweet, the single is titled “No Tears Left to Cry”.

“No Tears Left to Cry” will be the first single since the Manchester attacks. Now, with new music on the horizon, here is Everything We Know About Ariana Grande’s New Album.
Production from Pharrell and Max Martin.
According to Billboard back in March, half of Ariana Grande’s new album features production from Pharrell. Max Martin, a longtime collaborator who produced some of Grande’s biggest hits such as “Problem” and “Into You”, handled the rest of the new album. With these two behind her upcoming project, there’s no doubt in our minds that Ariana Grande will becoming out with another few hits in 2018.
It’s her most personal album to date.
Grande reportedly played the full album at a listening session for manager Scooter Braun and Republic Records execs back in February, according to Stereogum, and it was said that Grande’s new album is her most personal to date. This isn’t a surprising detail, considering the year she had, not to mention her recent political involvement at March for Our Lives, where she delivered a beautiful performance of “Be Alright”.
Back in September 2017, Grande updated Billboard on how she was recovering after the Manchester bombings. “It would be nice to really hold my loved ones close for a little while, stay home for a little bit. But knowing me, I’m going to be in the studio because I love it, and I want to create. I started an album already a year ago, over a year ago, but I want to keep creating, and it’s not done yet.” Much of the creative process was done post-Manchester, and since this is the first time Grande has personally written parts of every new track, we expect her new album to be very intimate.
There could be a Dua Lipa collaboration.
On April 6th, a 15-second clip (which has since been deleted) surfaced, featuring Grande and Dua Lipa singing a dark and seductive track allegedly titled “Bad to You”. Besides a photo of Dua Lipa and Grande being chummy beneath a SnapChat filter posted in January, there isn’t much else to support this claim. But a collaboration between the two singers would be awesome.
“No Tears Left to Cry” could arrive with a new music video.
While a video for “No Tears Left to Cry” hasn’t been announced, it’s possible that one could arrive in tandem with the single, due to known music video director Dave Meyers’ cryptic Instagram post from Tuesday, April 17th.
Meyers, who previously worked with Grande on visuals for “Beauty and the Beast”, is best known for his video for Camila Cabello’s “Havana”.
So far, this is everything we know about Ariana Grande’s new album, whose first single is set to arrive on 4.20. Stay tuned for more updates in the weeks to follow, as we think more singles, and Ariana Grande’s upcoming tour, will be announced soon.
