It’s official: Gorillaz have announced that they will be touring North America this year in support of their forthcoming album Humanz, due out April 28th. It’s been seven years since Gorillaz toured North America, their last stint being for 2010’s Plastic Beach. Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett will be hidden from the audience with the familiar troupe of animated characters, but there will still be plenty of humans involved in the Humanz tour.

Albarn and Hewlett will be joined by several of the album’s guests on the upcoming Humanz Tour, including D.R.A.M, De La Soul, Danny Brown, Vince Staples, and many others. We don’t have official word as to who will be appearing at which tour stop. But with Gorillaz appearing on several music festival lineups, we know they will be surrounded by many talented and willing musicians to bring up on stage. We’re not sure how the guest stars will interact with the animated band. Will Danny Brown rap with 2D? Will Grace Jones dance with Noodle? The possibilities are endlessly exciting.

The “Humanz” Tour will kick off July 8th in Chicago, and includes stops at New York’s Meadows Music and Arts Festival, Outside Lands, and even the Life is Beautiful festival in Vegas. News of the “Humanz” Tour was preceded by Albarn’s announcement of the “Spirit House“, an immersive pop-up experience in collaboration with Sonos that combines music, visuals, physical installations, and projection mapping technology. Albarn didn’t get more specific than that, so you’ll have to check it out for yourself in New York (April21-23), Berlin (April 28-30), and Amsterdam (May 6).

Gorillaz tickets will be available for Friday, April 21st. Those who purchased online for selected dates will have the choice of receiving a standard physical or standard digital copy of Humanz. Considering this is the first Gorillaz tour in seven years, the immensity of it, and all of its promised guest stars, we think fans ought to get their Gorillaz tickets fast. We wouldn’t want you to wait yet another seven years before seeing the world’s first animated band live.
