Lana Del Rey Releases New Song and Teases Forthcoming Album
This past weekend, Lana Del Rey dropped her first single since the release of 2015’s Honeymoon. It wasn’t long after Honeymoon dropped that Lana Del Rey was back in the studio working on its follow-up. Now, we’re finally getting to hear some of it. After teasing the single with posters all over L.A, Lana Del Rey has released “Love“, the first single from her fifth studio album, due sometime this year.
“Love” is a slow-burning track about kids, bonding over music, and being in love. The song was quickly followed up with a dreamy, sci-fi music video that features Lana Del Rey in her lovely vintage aesthetic that she’s perfected over the course of her career. Needless to say, “Love” and its music video has us pretty excited for Lana Del Rey’s upcoming album. Check out the video below:
From the new album’s first single, it seems that Lana Del Rey is reverting back to her breathy vocal style and using it to deliver songs that are both tragic and romantic to the backdrop of grainy, American vibes. And considering this formula helped launched her career back in 2011 with the release of perhaps her biggest single to date “Video Games“, we wouldn’t be surprised if she continues to lean on it throughout the whole album.
Though not much else is known about Lana Del Rey’s new album, we know that she created this body of work with long time producer and collaborator Rick Nowels. Benny Blanco and Emile Haynie also contributed to the album. Lana Del Rey and her crowd are being tight-lipped about who else is on the album, but a press release noted “exciting guest featured artists”. Thematically, it seems that she has taken a different approach in making this forthcoming body of work. “I made my first 4 albums for me, but this one is for my fans and about where I hope we are all headed,” Del Rey said in a statement.
The new album’s release date, track list and “exciting guest featured artists” will be revealed at a later date, but in the mean time, check out Lana Del Rey’s new single “Love”, a true throwback to the Lana we fell in love with in the first place.
