If you read last week’s post about the 13 coolest must-see NYC concerts in the first half of March, 2014, you may have noticed a name that sounded unfamiliar: Jungle. This eerie, yet groovy London-local band has upheld quite the mysterious identity despite their growing and fervent fanbase, made possible by the production of two share-friendly and attention-grabbing music videos. That’s probably why you’ve never heard of them. But if recent fervor for their viral hits says anything, they won’t stay under the radar for very long.
We’re currently obsessed with the music video for “Platoon” by Jungle. Not only does the track have an irresistibly hypnotic beat, but 6-year-old B-Girl Terra has some serious incredible dance moves. See for yourself below.
Part of their appeal is definitely their curious nature, but don’t be fooled by the ambiguity – Jungle is more than just a dope beat to dance to. With strong vocals and a steady, easy rhythm, listeners can expect some seriously groovy disco undertones. Jungle joins quite a few other artists in the past few years who have been using their anonymous personas to generate blog frenzy, such as Chvrches, MS MR, Wu Lyf and The Child Of Lov. The simple power of a secret show shows no sign of dying down, either; their first London show in December sold out in less than 24 hours.
“J” and “T” (all we know of the duo’s names) will be playing two shows in NYC next week, and few tickets remain.
So if you want tickets, we’d suggest you run now.
It’s a jungle out there.
