New U.S. Open Golf Views in 2018 | How to Get New Top of the Hill Tickets

The 2018 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club is rapidly approaching, and the United States Golf Association has been working to cook up some new ways for fans to enjoy their experience during these long and at times arduous days chock-full of watching the best golfers in the world compete for one of the PGA’s four major titles.

One of these new improvement methods is their introduction of a new “Top of the Hill” viewing area option that allows ticket holders to enjoy an open-air roofer tent that’s situated at the highest elevation on the course, allowing for panoramic views of the entire course as the tournament is being played out.

Fans who purchase a Top of the Hill  ticket (prices below) will be able to enjoy a beergarden-like setup that includes an outdoor deck, food and alcohol options, and big screen TVs broadcasting the event, of course.

  • Monday or Tuesday “Top of the Hill” Ticket: $80
  • Wednesday “Top of the Hill” Ticket: $95
  • Thursday “Top of the Hill” Ticket: $165
  • Friday, Saturday or Sunday “Top of the Hill” Ticket: $185

The USGA is currently constructing the merchandise pavilion which can be seen from County Road 39. DANA SHAW

This new viewing option offers golf fans the option for a large open-air space that’s akin to other sports teams and venues (an example being the Yankees adding two general admission terrace areas in 2017 that were formerly occupied by sections of the bleachers that provided partial or obstructed views, anyway) updating their venues to adapt to the times of today that call for an opportunity for fans to hangout and recharge – both figuratively and literally; phone batteries hardly will last you the entire day for these longer events, so you’ll need an outlet to power up before hitting the links to follow your favorite golfer around.

All in all, this seems like a great idea for the USGA to adapt to the needs and desires of millennial fans who will continue to help grow the sport in the years to come, and should allow these beautiful courses that host these events to monetize these demands for convenient viewing areas in a way that benefits all parties involved.  We wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes the status quo for any course that hosts a major in the future this side of Augusta National.
