PNC Park History and Overview
PNC Park is located on the North Shore of Pittsburgh at 115 Federal Street and is home to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The park’s backdrop is the downtown Pittsburgh skyline and the Roberto Clemente Bridge, which provides one of the best views of a team’s city in any Major League ballpark.
PNC Park opened for the 2001 season and has a capacity of 38,362. All seats in the park offer views of the Pittsburgh skyline except for the bleacher sections.
For the Pirates’ first playoff series at PNC Park in 2013, an attendance record of 40,493 was set on October 7th.
PNC Park Seat Numbers
The PNC Park seating chart with seat numbers indicates that seat 1 is typically located closer to the lower-numbered adjacent section. For example, seat 1 in section 116 is closest to the highest numbered seat in section 115.
Typically, the best seats are closer to the home plate. Going by that logic, if you’re on the left-field line, you’d want a seat with a lower seat number, and on the right-field line, you’d look for a higher seat number. (So remember, don’t think of seat and row numbers as the same thing.)
Best Seats for Pittsburgh Pirates Games
The best seats for a Pittsburgh Pirates game at PNC Park are located in sections 9-24 and 109-124, which are situated behind the plate and surrounding the infield. If these sections are a bit out of your price range, the seats near the foul poles are also a nice option.
Since PNC Park is so small, there isn’t a bad seat in the house. Each seat provides a view of the Pittsburgh skyline except for the bleacher seats, where you will find the rowdiest fans.
Premium Seats for Pittsburgh Pirates Games
The Pittsburgh Pirates and PNC Park do not offer many amenities or premium seating options. The seats along the infield in the lower section do not have any additional amenities, nor do the seats behind home plate.
If you want more bang for your buck at PNC Park, consider seats in the All You Can Eat section in sections 146-147. These include the standard ballpark meals of hot dogs and Cracker Jacks, but unfortunately, no alcohol is included.
Pittsburgh Pirates Seats in the Shade
Since most seats at PNC Park are on the field level (26,000), there aren’t many seats that will protect you from the sun’s rays during day games.
Your best bet to get out of the sun would be in the last few rows in the 100 level, but neither baseline provides a benefit regarding shadows. We advise against leaving for a Pittsburgh Pirates day game without sunscreen and some shades.
Pittsburgh Pirates Dugout and Bullpen
The Pittsburgh Pirates’ dugout is in front of sections 20-23, and the visitors’ dugout is in front of sections 10-13. The Pirates’ bullpen is located in Left-Center field next to section 138, with the visitors’ bullpen located right in front of the Pirates’ bullpen
Pittsburgh Pirates Food Options
Although PNC Park doesn’t offer extra amenities in the seats, the food stands are among some of the best in baseball. Stop by the BBQ Pitt near Section 211 for classic BBQ options, including pulled pork and Texas-style brisket. Near section 213, you will find Bierbauer’s Grill, which offers your classic ballpark fare.
Finally, stop by Gunner’s near sections 214-216 for drinks in a club environment. The menu features locally made sausages and hot dogs, accompanied by a variety of toppings.
Pittsburgh Pirates Autographs
Pittsburgh Pirates fans can get autographs from their favorite players up until 45 minutes before game time (or after batting practice). Ticket holders in sections 10-13 and 20-23 will have the easiest time doing so, as these are the sections where the players will be.
Covered Seating at PNC Park
Looking for a shady area for a Pittsburgh Pirates home game? This section is for you.
Shaded seats change depending on the time of day. You can generally find covered seating at PNC Park on the 1st base side of the park, further back in one of those sections under an overhang, and in the back rows of the 300-level under the roof.
For early afternoon games at PNC Park, it’s hard to find a seat without sunshine. The back rows of both the 300-level and the 200-level, the ones under the stadium’s overhang, are likely the only seats that can provide some shade.
ADA Seating at PNC Park
For those who are wheelchair users and/or those looking to attend a game at PNC Park with somebody who is, there is some important information that you’ll want to know. If you’re seeking ADA seating, you’ll find accessible rows at the top of most sections throughout the venue.
If necessary, folding chairs will be provided for guests, such as those who wish to sit with a fan while using a wheelchair. One trick you can use to filter tickets that are ADA accessible is to use our “Additional filters +” button on the event page, which allows you to select “ADA (wheelchair accessible). ” This shows all seats that the seller has marked as accessible seating.
