Superheroes Invade Citi Field For CosPlay Night
Daniel Murphy. Jeurys Familia. Bartolo Colon…
And the Amazing Spider-Man?
Under normal circumstances, one wouldn’t find the world’s most famous web slinger hanging around these Big Apple big leaguers, but when the New York Mets closed out their home series with the San Francisco Giants on Thursday the superheroes were out in full force. It was CosPlay Night at Citi Field.
Characters from DC and Marvel alike, from Superman and Wonder Woman to the aforementioned Spidey and the Asgardian warrior prince Thor were on hand to witness Michael Cuddyer knock in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning with a single off of Giants reliever Sergio Romo.
Even Boba Fett made an appearance, although I’d hardly call the bounty hunter a superhero. In fact, after all the hype surrounding the character preceding the release of the Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett did very little beyond lugging Han Solo’s carbonite-encased body across the galaxy to Jabba the Hutt, and then meeting his untimely demise in Return of the Jedi in less than distinguished fashion–
Despite his perceived awesomeness, Fett ultimately comes up a bit short in the heroics department.
Thankfully, the force is strong with Cuddyer.
