The Killers Announce New Album and Premier Lead Single

It’s been five years since alt-rock band The Killers released their fifth studio album, 2012’s Battleborn. There hasn’t been a band quite like The Killers since they left the rock music scene, making us desperate for Brandon Flowers and co. to come back with another album’s worth of hits. And it looks like the wait is finally over. The Killers have finally announced their new album, titled Wonderful Wonderful. The album has yet to receive a release date, but according to a press release, Wonderful, Wonderful is “soon to be completed”. The band is calling Wonderful, Wonderful their “most sonically forward-thinking record yet; an LP bursting with all of the blazing choruses and arena-filling anthems”.

Not only did The Killers announce their first album in five years, the band dropped the lead single from Wonderful, Wonderful. “The Man“, which premiered on BBC Radio 1, moves in a funkier direction than what we’ve seen from The Killers, but the decision is justified by how well they pulled off the track. The Bowie-esque, dark, glam-rock disco vibes on “The Man” have fans surprised but no less excited for The Killers LP6. The odd-ball arena anthem, according to the band’s press release, finds frontman Brandon Flowers “looking back on his younger self, the ‘Brandon Flowers’ persona from their Grammy-nominated debut Hot Fuss, and reconciling that wide-eyed character with the man he is now. ” You can listen to “The Man” below:

Production of “The Man”, and other tracks on Wonderful, Wonderful were overseen by Garret “JackKnife” Lee, who has worked with the likes of R.E.M and Weezer. Additional production was contributed by longtime collaborator Stuart Price. The recording of Wonderful, Wonderful mostly took place in the band’s hometown of Las Vegas, in addition to a few sessions in Los Angeles. Though an official release date is pending, we think we’ll be hearing a lot more from The Killers in months to come.

The band premiered another new song, “Run for Cover“, during a performance in Atlantic City last weekend. In support of the forthcoming LP, The Killers will be making several summer music festival appearances, including stops at Lollapalooza, ACL, and Voodoo Experience at the beginning of fall. Even if The Killers haven’t dropped Wonderful, Wonderful by the tail end of Summer, we wouldn’t be surprised if they continue to perform new music during their festival sets.
