We’re here to interrupt your typical Thursday (Jan. 20) with what could be the most epic Super Bowl Halftime show trailer we’ve ever seen. The trailer, directed by Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray, features the rap and R&B gods fans can expect to see at this year’s Halftime show: Dr. Dre. Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J. Blige.
Why bother describing the chill-inducing anticipation this trailer managed to drum up in us? How to describe the excitement felt when Dr. Dre, Em (and his alter ego Slim Shady), and Snoop Dogg are conjured together just like they were in the 90’s?Or how, when hearing the intro to Mary J. Blige’s “Family Affair” or Kendrick Lamar’s “HUMBLE,” we had no choice but to throw our hands up, get up from the desk chair, and dance?
We are officially shook. We can’t contain ourselves, or our excitement, for the 2022 Super Bowl Halftime show, a lineup that contains the perfect storm of legends. Check out the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime show trailer, “The Call,” for yourself, below.
It makes sense, considering the location of Super Bowl LVI, that a West Coast reunion is set to take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. “The opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, and to do it in my own backyard, will be one of the biggest thrills of my career,” Dr. Dre previously said in a statement. “I’m grateful to Jay-Z, Roc Nation, the NFL, and Pepsi as well as Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar for joining me in what will be an unforgettable cultural moment.”
Now, under a month out from the biggest NFL event of the year, we truly can’t believe that such a reunion is being given to us. It feels too good to be true. It makes us wonder: Is there more good news on the way?
Will any of the Super Bowl LVI Halftime performers go on tour in 2022?
Or, could the West Coast reunion/SoFi performance launch a JOINT tour?
If we had to put any money on it, we would bet that at least one artist performing the Super Bowl Halftime announces a new album or tour shortly after the show. Who? Kendrick Lamar. Here is Everything We Know About Kendrick’s New Album and (Potential) Tour. Though we can’t be certain any of the 2022 Halftime performers will tour after the show, we agree with Dre: this is a big cultural moment. We think someone will capitalize on the event’s natural steam.
