When 2021 finally arrives, we will be nearing two full years since Lizzo released her third studio album, the record which propelled her into fame, Cuz I Love You. With tracks such as “Juice” and “Truth Hurts” still dominating streaming services and radio stations, it can feel as if it hasn’t been that long since Lizzo dropped her seminal LP.
But, in fact, with almost two years behind it, we are finally feeling brave enough to speculate: Will Lizzo Release A New Album in 2021? Following up such a groundbreaking, trend-setting, and monumental record such as Cuz I Love You can’t be an easy task. But with enough style, flair, and personality to hold the love and appreciation of audiences worldwide, we know to expect nothing but greatness, and bangers, from Lizzo’s fourth studio album.
Back in October, Lizzo was quoted by the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column to be working on the Cuz I Love You follow-up, but not to expect the artist to rush her process for the sake of meeting industry timelines. “There is no due date on the album because I’m the kind of artist that needs to write songs from experiences and my life,” Lizzo said. She added:
“And I think there’s some amazing s***.” Elaborating slightly, Lizzo said, “I have done some amazing s*** so far but there still needs to be a few more songs I need to write that haven’t been written.” Considering this was now two months ago, we can assume that Lizzo has been moving forward on the record and will likely enter 2021 with the material tracks of her fourth studio album.
When will Lizzo release her new album?
As the artist said, Lizzo isn’t going to hasten her creativity if it isn’t truthful. Realistically, unless Lizzo surprises us with a new single before 2020 ends, we likely won’t see her upcoming album until fall 2021. But Cuz I Love You was just the beginning of her stardom. Lizzo’s follow-up studio album will, 100%, be worth the wait.
Last month, Lizzo was seen on TikTok confessing to the hidden, darker aspects of fame. “You can be, like, the coolest, most richest person ever and it doesn’t buy you f–king happiness. Money doesn’t buy you happiness. Fame only puts a magnifying glass on the s–t that you already have,” Lizzo said, with her phone close and personal, her hair still up in a towel.
“So, I’m just telling everyone now, anyone who has internal issues or has like any type of self problems that they need to work out, work out now,” Lizzo continued. “Because money, fame, or success or even getting older doesn’t really fix that s–t. You need to just, like do it, do the inner work, do the inner work, because no matter where you are if you don’t, it’s going to haunt you like a f–king ghost.”
When we see music artists living their best lives, it’s often hard to imagine their realness. But we are alike in our joy and in our pain. Lizzo continues to defy standards of fame. She brings us into her experience and consequently helps us through ours.
Who Will Appear on Lizzo’s New Album?
Unfortunately, we don’t know who Lizzo is featuring on her second album. As of now the singer has been very tight-lipped as to who she is working with. But a few social media moments could be interpreted to shed light on Lizzo’s upcoming project.
In late January, SZA took to Twitter to confirm that new Lizzo music is definitely out there. Also, how Lizzo shared one of the best songs she’s ever heard. “Lizzo really jus played me the best song I ever heard in my life,” she wrote, “I’m crying lmao like really”. The friendship between SZA and Lizzo is well documented at this point. From co-hosting a self-care virtual meditation last Spring, to linking up this past Valentine’s Day, these two women seem to be building a lifelong friendship.
Are they forming an artistic relationship, as well? We wouldn’t be surprised if a recording session/collab has occurred over the course of becoming close. Until we know for certain, we’ll have to keep gushing over their shared admiration. “I love Lizzo’s unreleased music. I literally cried and screamed listening to her songs,” said the “Good Days” singer. “It makes me feel so good. She’s just a f*cking amazing person and I hope that she takes over the actual universe because she deserves to.”
Finally, Cardi B has expressed interest in collaborating with Lizzo. Now, and in the past. Lizzo was supposed to be in Cardi’s “WAP” video, but they missed each other. Recently on Twitter, Cardi B responded to a fan asking for a collab, saying she first wants to put Lizzo on a song of hers. Whether it’s on Cardi B’s sophomore album, or Lizzo’s, that is definitely a collab we would swoon over.
Join us in officially waiting for Lizzo’s new album, her fourth, a record that will hopefully inspire as much self-love, gratitude, and twerking, as the last.
