WWE is set to make history on October 28th at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York with its first all-female WWE event. Whether the WWE is doing it because these women have exploded in popularity or because they need to balance out the all-male events happening during their ten-year deal with Saudi Arabia, this has been a long time coming.
The growing women’s roster is finally getting their own pay-per-view competition and over 50 current and former female superstars are scheduled to be there. Here’s the WWE Evolution match card so far, along with our predictions on the outcomes and rumors about who else will be there.
Alexa Bliss and Mickie James vs. Trish Stratus and Lita
We’ve seen WWE superstar and Hall of Famer Trish Stratus on Raw a few times recently to hype up this match. Bliss has done her fair share of trash-talking the veteran star, and we can’t wait to see them in the ring together. After last week, we learned Bliss will team up with Mickie James to take on Stratus and fellow Hall of Famer Lita. James and Lita have had some memorable matches in the past, despite the fact that they didn’t wrestle with the WWE at the same time for very long. James actually took the title from Lita, who retired back in 2006, so there’s still a solid animosity angle at play there. It’ll be nice to see James in the ring rather than supporting her bad-girl friends from the sidelines.
We haven’t seen Trish Stratus in action since the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble earlier this year. Though we might’ve preferred solo matches, a tag team match will compensate for any potential ring rust from the older stars. Here’s hoping the icons will defeat the popular, hateable heels.
Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Title
This rivalry just keeps getting more and more heated. As we learned on SmackDown last week, these former friends are going to have a Last Woman Standing Match at WWE Evolution for the championship. The violence from Tuesday was intense, and after a series of brawls and title matches dating back from Hell in a Cell, this one should be great. The crowd loves the new, cocky Becky Lynch and it’s always fun when things get so personal. We think Lynch will keep the title.
Ronda Rousey vs. Nikki Bella for the Raw Women’s Championship
After their heel turn last week on Raw, the WWE confirmed this title match is going down. (Nikki once turned on her sister, so you really can’t trust either of these gals, Ronda!) No doubt the Baddest Woman on the Planet will want revenge for the beating she received at the hands of the Bellas, but is Nikki a credible threat to the title? Can she take on the impressive Rousey and make it an interesting match? Will Brie interfere? (Um, most likely.) We think Rousey will keep the belt.
Kairi Sane vs. Shayna Baszler for the NXT Women’s Championship
Baszler is a scary prospect in the ring, but Sane wholeheartedly accepted her challenge for this rematch. After losing the title in Brooklyn, Baszler will be fighting to win it back and return to the top of NXT for the second time. We haven’t seen too much personal feuding between these two so we think they’ll keep it profesh. Our prediction? Baszler wins the belt to become the first two-time NXT Women’s Champ.
Io Shirai vs. Toni Storm – Mae Young Classic Tournament Final
The two future WWE stars have battled hard to make it this far, and we’ll have a winner of the second annual Mae Young Classic after Evolution. These international wrestlers have a lot of promise and a PPV event is the perfect stage to jumpstart their bright futures. After beating both Jinny and Hiroyo Matsumoto, we think Storm is the favorite to win this match. (She’s said that wrestling at Evolution is a dream of hers.) But we might still see some brutal knee-strikes from the Japanese-born Shirai…
Isla Dawn vs. Rhea Ripley for the NXT UK Women’s Championship
NXT just confirmed this one. We thought Ripley might take on Jinny or Toni Storm, but according to recent tapings in England, now we know it’ll be Isla Dawn challenging for the belt. This will be the first TV defense of this particular title, and we think Ripley, the “modern-day witch,” will keep it.
Rumors and Potential Match Predictions
Sasha Banks and Bayley vs. TBD
We haven’t seen enough from the Boss and Hug Connection lately, have we? Banks is a pretty big superstar and one of the biggest reasons the women’s division has taken off. Although nothing has been confirmed with her name on it, we bet Banks be there. In the ring? Against whom? We’re not sure yet…
Update: It’s a six-woman tag team match: Sasha Banks, Bayley and Natalya vs. The Riott Squad
Other NXT and WWE Superstars who’ve been advertised for Evolution and rumored to appear? Michelle McCool, Carmella, Asuka, Nia Jax, Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix, Candice LeRae, Dakota Kai, Bianca Belair, Jessamyn Duke, and Marina Shafir. There will likely be a couple surprise matches, appearances, and interferences. We’ll just have to watch and see what happens!
