For concerts the box seats R1 to R12 or L1 to L12, may be enjoyable, however, for comedy shows and other similar performances these are not the best or most desired seats. That is because you will be toward the side of the stage and may even have a difficult time seeing the large monitors that are on the sides of the stage.
The Theater of Madison Square Garden occasional has concerts where they remove the 100s sections and replace these seats with a GA (General Admission) section. This is a standing room only ticket and it's on a first come first serve basis. These seats are some of the best seats and will get you close to the stage.
The seat numbers in the MSG Theater are very important in determining how good your seats are, particularly when you are looking at the sections on the sides. The way the MSG theater seat numbers work is that when you are facing the stage, seat number 1 will always be on the left of the section and the higher seat numbers on the right side. This means that when sitting in the odd number sections 101, 201, 203, 205, 301, 303, or 305 you would want seats with a higher seat number so that you are closer to the center of the stage and vice versa for seats on the other side of the theater. For example seat number 1 in section 204 is next to section 202 and seat number 15 is next to section 206.
In each section the higher the row the more seats per a row there will be. Some rows have as little as 14 seats while other rows may have as many as 30 seats. Section 102 and 101 are great sections, but if you are too much to the side you are better off sitting in the first couple of rows in any of the sections between 200 to 204. If you are looking at the side 200s (205 or 206), although these sections are off to the side, these sections will get you closer to the stage and provide you with a better view verses any of the 300s sections. However, if you prefer a straight on view than the first couple rows of section 300, 301 or 302 may be preferred.
Row 1 of section 100 has 12 seats while the side sections first row has 4 seats. Each row has more seats than the one in front of it and the last row of section 100 has 36 seats, while the side sections have 20 seats. In the 200s row 1 has between 8 and 11 seats depending on the section. The center section has 10 seats, while the middle sections have 11 seats, and the outer sections have 8 seats in the first row. The middle 200 sections have 20 seats in the last row (row Z). The 300s sections at MSG have between 16 and 24 seats per a row.
