7 NYC Events for Ladies’ Night This Summer

I’m sure we can all agree, sometimes it’s best if the genders part ways to allow for the occasion we all know and love: Ladies’ Night. There are certain stereotypes surrounding men and women, and as much as we don’t like being stereotypical, some things are just true. It’s true, more women can relate to Carole King than men. It’s true, women can connect to Miguel in a way that men just can’t. And there probably aren’t as many men as there are women who would willingly attend a 90’s themed dance party. This summer, NYC is packed with things to with the ladies on your next night out. So, without further adieu, Here are the  7 Best NYC Events for Ladies’ Night This Summer.

Beautiful Carole King Musical1. Beautiful, the Carole King MusicalSummerStage

This summer, Carole King and Broadway fans are in for a treat. The cast of Broadway’s Beautiful, the Carole King Musical will be performing the show’s score, for free, concert style. This is the first time a Broadway musical cast has been commissioned to fit Central Park’s SummerStage, but we think it couldn’t be more perfect, as Carole King’s repertoire of songs were written to be performed on the concert stage. So, if you and the girls feel akin to the woman who gave the world “Jazzman”, “Where You Lead”, and “I Feel the Earth Move”, leave the boys at home and head to Central Park this month for what will be a truly great night.

Miguel2. Miguel @ Terminal 5

Miguel, who dropped a new album just last month, is currently on his Wildheart tour. And since Wildheart has been given incredible (well deserved) reception, we think it’s an album you’ll want to see the R&B pompadour perform live. Miguel is known for his swag and flirtatious stage presence, so leaving the boo at home and bringing a pack of your fellow Miguel groupies may provide for a better time. His new “sex positive” album will have your eyes glued to the stage as Miguel belts his heart out about pleasure, adventure, and partnerships. If your man insists on joining (hey, boys are Miguel fans too), be sure you keep the drooling to a minimum.

Bowl Train 3. Bowl Train: Questlove @ Brooklyn Bowl

This past year, DJ Questlove made his Thursday night residency at Brooklyn Bowl a pretty big deal. “Bowl Train” is an event where people come to dance. With throwback Soul Train videos and a collection of over 500,000 albums, Questlove is equipped to host a night of unabashed fun. By mixing house, hip-hop, 80’s and everything in between, “Bowl Train” will keep you up on your feet for hours. The “Bowl Train” runs pretty much all night, so grab some danceable shoes and those girlfriends who are looking to bust some moves.

Lake Street Dive4. Lake Street Dive @ SummerStage

If the boys aren’t up to seeing Lake Street Dive at SummerStage, who cares. Lake Street Dive, who Rolling Stone considered the best new band of 2014, is a band I would even see alone. But no need to waste a precious Saturday afternoon: rally a group together to witness Rachael Price’s stunning voice and her extremely talented troupe of trained musicians for free. With a perfect blend of indie, jazz, and pop, Lake Street Dive will provide the soundtrack to a perfect Saturday night with the people you love to hang with.

Brasil SummerFest5. Brasil Summerfest @ Various Locations

Since it’s inception in 2011, the Brasil Summerfest has become the largest International Brazilian Music Festival in the world. What is Brasil Summerfest? The energy of Brazilian culture cannot always be put into words; it overflows into sound, color, and movement. Brasil Summerfest aims to show just that. In several venues across the city, famous Brazilian musicians will be hosting both indoor and outdoor concerts, meant to get audiences up and dancing. If your man can’t dance, don’t let that stop you from getting a taste of Brazil at Summerfest. Grab the girls and get your culture on.

tUnE-yArDs6. tUnE-yArDs @ Prospect Park Bandshell

For yet another opportunity to get your groove on for free, head on over to the Prospect Park Bandshell this month to take part in what will likely be the most hipster dance party ever. Last year, Merrill Garbus of tUnE-yArDs released Nikki Nack, an LP filled with off-beat party-starters. Now, Garbus will take the Bandshell stage to perform these songs live, sparking a truly strange and sweaty dance party between her hip and adoring fans. The experimental hip-hop duo Shabazz Palaces will round off the bill with their trippy approach to beat-making. So get anyone together who’s willing to have a “unique” experience at the Bandshell, the perfect amount of wacky to finish the Celebrate Brooklyn series.

Party Like It's 19997. Party Like It’s 1999 @ The Bell House

There are few things that get 20 something girls more excited than a 90’s themed dance party. It’s like we’re just waiting for an excuse to pull out our converse, pleated skirts, and destroyed flannel. So, to celebrate our endless love for the grungiest decade, head on over to The Bell House the first week of August for some 21+ fun. This year, The Bell House’s annual party to pay tribute to Babe, the movie that introduced us to adorable talking farm animals and the saying “That’ll do pig, that’ll do.” And hey, if your girlfriends aren’t as into it, drag your s/o. 90’s themed dance parties are NOT to be missed.
