A Tribe Called Quest Will Embark on One Last World Tour

November 17, 2016 by

Last week, A Tribe Called Quest released their last full length LP, We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your ServiceThe title is likely a reference to Phife Dawg, the late co-founder of A Tribe Called Quest, who unfortunately died before the album’s completion. We Got it From Here is Tribe’s first studio album in 18 years and it turns out the talents of Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and Jarobi White have only matured over time. The new record, though truly incredible, is a bittersweet moment for ATCQ. It serves as the group’s comeback release as well as it’s final entry into their discography, which now spans multiple decades. But in our opinion, We Got it From Here is the perfect adieu to a career of legendary proportions.

After releasing We Got it From Here…Thank You 4 Your Service, Q-Tip and Jarobi White sat down with Billboard to discuss life since Phife Dawg’s passing and what’s in store for ATCQ. “This is our last record, and we’ll probably do a world tour,” Q-Tip told Billboard. “After that, that’s it, for the rest of our lives.” There you have it: A Tribe Called Quest will embark on one final world tour before retiring. This tour will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for multiple generations to celebrate one of the best rap groups to come out of Queens. This past Saturday, ATCQ performed on SNL for the first time as a group since Phife Dawg died for what was an emotional, politically charged comeback. Check out the video below:

We Got it From Here features appearances by Kendrick Lamar, Andre 3000, Jack White, vocals from Elton John, and a hook from Kanye. The album couldn’t be a better sign off from A Tribe Called Quest. Always pushing forward in their ideology, ATCQ dedicated much of their album to discuss the future of the country, using the mechanisms of poetry and allegory to directly address so much of what’s been weighing on the heart’s of people in this country and beyond.

As evidenced on the album, ATCQ continue to be on point in their delivery, passing on each other’s rhymes and couplets seamlessly. Though it’ll be sad to feel the absence of Phife Dawg on stage, A Tribe Called Quest’s final world tour will be nothing short of a spectacle.
