Chance the Rapper Shares 4 New Songs
Fans were disappointed to say the least when Chance the Rapper rescinded his plan to release a new album before the Special Olympics in his hometown of Chicago, where he is scheduled to perform. But instead of the highly anticipated follow-up to Coloring Book, Chance the Rapper dropped an EP’s worth of new tracks.
These releases follow a tweet from Chance, saying “Sorry no album this week, def been in the stu[dio], tho.” To satiate fans while he continues to work, possibly on confirmed projects such as his Kanye West-produced full-length, or his collaboration with Childish Gambino, Chance delivered “I Might Need Security”, “Wala Cam”, “65th and Ingleside” and “Work Out”. You can listen to the 4 new songs on all streaming services.
There are several notable moments in Chance’s latest round of releases. Chicago rapper Supa Bwe appears on “Wala Cam,” and on “Security,” Chance calls out Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel in this scathing moment: “And Rahm you done/I’m expecting a resignation/and open investigation on all these paid vacations for murderers.”
On “65th,” Chance talks the early days with Childish Gambino: “All my raps was about suspension/Then one day Donald took me on tour/Young, broke Chano ain’t broke no more.” Perhaps the biggest moment, however, is in “Security“, where Chance discloses his recent acquisition of the Chicagoist.
“I bought the Chicagoist just to run you racist bitches outta business.” Gothamist confirmed the news—Chance’s Social Media LLC actually purchased the Chicago news website from WNYC. It’s already shaping up to be a big year for Chance, who now joins the ranks of rappers who’ve acquired media companies. And when it comes to new music, we hope “Security”, “Wala Cam”, “Work Out” and “65th and Ingleside” are just the beginning.
