Coney Island Boardwalk Amphitheater Overview
I was slightly disappointed with the overall layout after attending the first show at the Coney Island Amphitheater. The venue sneaks up on you when you walk down the boardwalk, resembling a tent for a weekend event rather than a permanent venue.
Inside the venue, there is minimal slope from section to section, so when concert-goers stand during the main act, it can be tough to see if they are in the middle of the 100 or 200 levels.
The food court is positioned behind the 300 level at the highest point of the venue and provides the standard venue fare of grilled items. There is also a bar directly to the left of section 103 and behind section 201, which means you don’t need to wait in long lines.
The restrooms are backstage, to the left and in front of section 103. When walking through the hallway to the bathroom, you can see the behind-the-scenes action, with personnel guarding the performers’ dressing rooms, which are located along the same hallway.
Coney Island Boardwalk Amphitheater Seat Numbers
The seat numbers at the Coney Island Amphitheater follow a familiar pattern similar to most amphitheaters. In the center sections (101-201), the seat numbers are consecutive, with seat number 101 being on the right aisle when facing the stage.
In the side sections, the seat numbers are even or odd. On the right side of the venue, seat number 2 will always be on the inside aisle (closest to the center of the stage). On the left side of the venue, seat number 1 will always be on the inside (closest to the center of the stage).
The number of seats per row varies greatly depending on your row within a given section.
Coney Island Amphitheater Pit Seating
The GA Pit at the Coney Island Amphitheater will not be open for every event. For events that do have pit seating, those tickets will afford you the closest views of the stage. However, this will be standing room only, as the pit will replace the double-lettered rows in the 100 level.
Those double-lettered rows in the 100 level are some of the best seats at the Coney Island Amphitheater. These seats are padded, and the height of the stage ensures that anyone sitting in front of you does not obstruct your view, as you can see below.
When these temporary seats turn into an actual pit, you may not want to have to stand for an entire event. If this applies to you, we advise purchasing tickets in the 100 level or the first few rows of the 200 level if you are still interested in sitting near the stage.
VIP Seating at Coney Island Amphitheater
The VIP Boxes or seats at the Coney Island Amphitheater are right in the middle of the action. If you have the front row, you will be sitting in some of the best seats in the house. But if you are not in the front row of this section, good luck having a full view of the show.
As you can see, there is little to no elevation between these ‘box’ rows, so if you have somebody tall in front of you, seeing the stage will become a problem. You can also see how much bigger these seats are compared to the standard seating. Check out a closer view of the seats below.
The seats look below in a movie theater rather than a concert venue. When purchasing VIP tickets at the Ford Amphitheater, just be aware of what box row you are in, as they are not created equal.
Obstructed Seats at Coney Island Amphitheater
Luckily, the Coney Island Boardwalk Amphitheater does not have seats marked as obstructed view. At many outdoor concert venues, the seats on the far sides may be partially obstructed, but that is not the case here. Still, the lower your seat number in the side sections, the better your view.
Coney Island Amphitheater 300 Level
The 300-level seats at the Coney Island Amphitheater are the least desirable for several reasons. These seats do not have seat backs but have the seat bottom, so it isn’t a traditional bleacher setup. The first few rows of the 300 level have minimal elevation, which can lead to obstructed views from concert-goers walking between the 200 and 300 levels.
Also, the action can distract from the performance because the concessions are behind these sections. While these sections provide the cheapest seats at the Coney Island Amphitheater, you should set your expectations low to avoid disappointment.
What Are the Best Seats at Coney Island Amphitheater?
The best Coney Island Boardwalk Amphitheater seats are in section 101, and the low seats are in adjacent sections 102-103. The first half of the 100 sections will become a general admission pit for specific events.
There are no seats for that configuration, and the proximity to the stage will be determined on a first-come, first-served basis. If you do not mind standing for the entirety of the event, this is the closest you can get to the performers.
