How Do Mobile Tickets Work? Entry, Transfer, and Gate Troubleshooting

September 1, 2026 by

A mobile ticket is a digital entry credential that you accept through the ticket issuer’s account or app, then show from the issuer-approved app or phone wallet at the gate. The exact screen, barcode timing, transfer options, and entry method depend on the event’s original ticketing platform and venue.

If you bought NFL tickets or tickets to another live event on TickPick, your order confirmation and your ticket access may arrive from different senders. TickPick confirms the order and lets you know when the tickets are ready; a platform such as Ticketmaster, AXS, SeatGeek, or a team account may deliver the actual transfer.

The safest plan is to finish the acceptance steps before you travel, confirm each seat appears in the correct account, and check the venue’s instructions for your event.

How do mobile tickets get from TickPick to my phone?

Most TickPick mobile-transfer orders are delivered via a separate ticketing platform, not as a barcode in the TickPick order email. TickPick’s mobile-transfer help page says the transfer invitation should arrive around the same time as the TickPick “tickets are ready for delivery” email.

Open the transfer invitation and follow its link. You may need to sign in to the original platform or create an account using the email address to which the tickets were sent. After you accept, open that platform’s tickets or events section and confirm that the event, section, row, seat, and number of tickets match your order.

Sports tickets may sometimes appear under a team or venue Account Manager rather than in the general Ticketmaster app. Ticketmaster’s Account Manager guide tells fans to use the team or venue ticketing site when a sports transfer does not appear in their main account.

What should I check before I leave for the venue?

Before you leave, make sure the tickets are accepted, visible, and ready in the entry method approved for your event. Do not wait until you are in the security line to discover that the transfer is still pending or that you signed in with a different email.

  • Match the account: Sign in with the email address that received the transfer, unless the issuer’s instructions tell you otherwise.
  • Open every seat: Confirm that each ticket appears and that no guest’s ticket is still marked as sent or waiting for acceptance.
  • Use the supported access method: If the issuer offers Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, add the tickets before you travel. Ticketmaster’s Mobile Entry guide recommends using its wallet option so tickets remain accessible without an internet connection.
  • Check the venue’s rules: Look at the event or venue page for its accepted app, wallet, barcode, screenshot, gate, and accessibility instructions.
  • Prepare the phone: Charge it, update the required app, and know how to unlock the ticket quickly. Bring a charging cable or battery pack if you expect a long day.

One phone may be able to hold several tickets, but that does not mean every venue handles groups the same way. If your party will arrive separately, use the issuer’s transfer feature when it is available instead of sending an image.

Is transferring a ticket the same as adding it to a wallet?

No. A transfer sends a ticket to another person’s ticketing account, while adding it to a wallet stores an issuer-supported pass on your own phone for entry. These actions solve different problems.

Use Transfer when another person needs control of a ticket in their own account. On Ticketmaster, an accepted transfer gives the recipient a new barcode and invalidates the sender’s old barcode, according to its Ticket Transfer guide. Other issuers may use different controls, so look for the Transfer option attached to your event.

Use Add to Apple Wallet or Add to Google Wallet when that option appears and you want the eligible pass available through your phone’s wallet. Apple’s Wallet instructions and Google Wallet’s event-ticket guide both make the provider part of the process. Adding a ticket to your wallet does not, by itself, send the ticket to a friend.

Will a screenshot of a mobile ticket work?

A screenshot works only when the specific delivery method and venue allow it, so do not treat it as a universal backup. Ticketmaster’s Mobile Entry guide states that screenshots are not accepted for that ticket type, while TickPick’s delivery guide also notes that certain orders are intentionally delivered as mobile QR PDFs.

Those are different ticket types. Use the file, app, account, or wallet named in your delivery instructions, and do not convert one format into another on your own. If the venue uses a changing barcode or contactless pass, a saved image may not contain the live credential the scanner expects.

Why can I see the ticket but not the barcode?

A ticket can appear in your account before its barcode becomes available. TickPick’s mobile-transfer guide says some teams and venues delay barcode access until closer to the event.

Check the event details before assuming the transfer failed. If the stated release time or your TickPick in-hand date has passed, sign in directly to the issuer’s app or website and check its tickets section again. Then contact the appropriate support team with your order information if the credential is still unavailable.

What should I do if the transfer email never arrives?

First, confirm the delivery email on your TickPick order, then search all email folders for the ticket platform’s invitation. TickPick recommends checking the inbox, spam, junk, trash, and deleted items after the order’s in-hand date has passed.

Search for the platform, team, or venue name rather than only “TickPick.” If you received a ready-for-delivery notice but cannot find the invitation, sign directly into the likely platform with the matching email and check its tickets or events section; the transfer may already be waiting there.

If that does not work, follow the detailed steps in TickPick’s guide to sending and receiving mobile-transfer tickets. Contact TickPick support if the invitation is still missing after the order’s in-hand date.

What if my ticket does not scan at the gate?

Stay at the venue and ask the gate or box-office staff to confirm the required entry method before you change anything in the app. A scanning problem can result from the wrong ticket screen, the wrong account, a ticket that has already been transferred, or a venue-specific access rule.

  • Confirm that you opened the correct event and seat in the issuer-approved app or wallet.
  • If you transferred the ticket, check whether the recipient accepted it; your copy may no longer be valid.
  • Follow staff directions for the reader. Google Wallet’s event-ticket guide notes that an eligible pass may be scanned or presented to a contactless reader.
  • Contact TickPick support if the issuer or venue cannot resolve a TickPick order at the gate.

The one thing to do now is to log in to your ticket issuer’s account and verify every seat before the event day. That short check gives you time to fix an email, transfer, wallet, or barcode problem before you reach the gate.
