Lil Wayne Surprise Drops Four New Songs
On Wednesday (July 5th), Lil Wayne took to his YouTube page to drop four new tracks, including a revealing freestyle over Playboi Carti’s single “Magnolia“. Like freestyles of Lil Wayne’s past, or the entirety of albums such as 500 Degreez, “Magnolia” is a hard-hitting, pointed track that doesn’t let down from beginning to end. Weezy also gives props to New Orleans rapper Soulja Slim, hints at a Roc Nation deal, and teases the release of the long-awaited Tha Carter V. “Wait for Carter V to drop,” he raps. “It’s the Roc.”
You can check out the audio below.
Weezy also teams up with Young Jeezy on the Mike Will produced “Fireworks“. “Loyalty” features Gudda Gudda and HoodyBaby and “Mula Gang” features Jay Jones, HoodyBaby and Euro. It is unclear whether or not these songs will appear on his upcoming album, the long rumored Tha Carter V, or on Lil Wayne’s Dedication 6 mixtape with DJ Drama.
Along with dropping four new songs, Lil Wayne also went into his dealings with Cash Money Records, who he’s had ongoing legal battles with. He took to social media to express his frustration with the music release delay. “I’m still trying to fight for my Independence, but today I’m saying f— it and giving all my fans some new music!” Lil Wayne wrote. “Thanks for being there and patiently waiting while I endure this fight #youngmoney #freeC5.”
Will Lil Wayne finally be able to drop Tha Carter V via Roc Nation records? We hope so. Especially since that would likely mean a Lil Wayne solo tour to follow.
