In the heart of the theatre district, the Marquis is the only Broadway theater located entirely inside a hotel. It has taken a few decades for the Marquis Theatre to accrue a good reputation, its origins rocky in theater district history, but this year’s production of The Wiz is putting this locale back on the map.

The original production of The Wiz, dating back to 1975, won seven Tony awards with a historic all-Black cast. The ongoing revival of The Wiz is back for the first time in decades. The Wiz and its iconic soul, funk, and gospel score will be delighting audiences from now through August 18.

Marquis Theatre Seating Chart Guide

With a seating capacity of around 1,602 patrons, the Marquis Theatre is one of the bigger venues on Broadway. The seats are traditionally divided between Orchestra (1016 seats) and Mezzanine (586 seats) sections, with the Mezzanine overhang beginning at Orchestra Row M. Seats behind Orchestra Row M might experience cut-off at the top of the stage.

The best (and most expensive) seats at the Marquis Theatre are located in the Central Orchestra, specifically Rows C-H. The Marquis Theatre, because of its age compared to other theaters on Broadway, is generally roomier and fitted with more comfortable seats. The added comfort of the Marquis Theatre is mostly experienced in the Orchestra seating.

The Mezzanine, hanging above the Orchestra seating at the Marquis Theatre, is divided into three sections: Right, Center, and Left. Views from the Mezzanine are generally good, with clear sight lines, but fans are suggested to avoid purchasing seats on the far ends of the Left and Right sections. There are no ADA accessible seats in the Mezzanine, these sections reachable by stairs only.

Orchestra Seating at the Marquis Theatre

The Orchestra section of the Marquis Theatre is spread across 25 rows, A through Z. Like other theaters on Broadway, Row “I” has been omitted to avoid confusion. Horizontally, the Orchestra section is divided into Left, Center, and Right.

The Left Orchestra is oriented across 24 rows, A to Y. The seats are odd-numbered, beginning at 1 and ending at 25, moving from the aisle to the outside. Center Orchestra seats are spread across 25 rows, A through Z. Seats begin at 101 and end at 128, moving left to right. Right Orchestra is spread across 24 rows, A to Y. The seats are even-numbered, beginning with 2 and ending with 26, moving from the aisle to the outside.

Similar to many other theaters, the best seats at the Marquis are in the Center Orchestra. There is a slight gradient in the floor, allowing for complete visibility as the rows progress back. Truly, there isn’t a bad seat in the Orchestra section of the Marquis Theatre. But fans if fans are looking for a cheaper Orchestra ticket, look to the side sections.

Mezzanine Seating at the Marquis Theatre

The Mezzanine at the Marquis Theatre, the only elevated section of the theater, is spread across 12 rows (A through M). The Mezzanine, similarly to the Orchestra, is divided horizontally into three sections: Left, Center, and Right.

Left Mezzanine is spread across 12 rows, A to M. This section is odd-numbered, beginning at 1 and ending at 35, moving from the aisle to the outside. Center Mezzanine is, again, spread across 12 rows (A to M). The seats begin at 101 and end at 118, moving left to right. Right Mezzanine is spread across 12 rows, A through M. The seats are even-numbered, beginning with 2 and ending with 36, moving from the aisle to the outside.

The seats in the first, front half of the Mezzanine are some of the most expensive in this section, but the cost is worth it for the views. Prices will fall the further you move back in the section, rear Mezzanine being some of the most affordable seats in the house.

Unlike many other theaters, there is an additional bar located on the Mezzanine level.

ADA Seating at the Marquis Theatre

For ADA seating at the Marquis Theatre, fans should purchase tickets in these locations: Orchestra A1, A2, F17, F18, K1, K2, P101, P125, S27, S28, T1, T2; Mezzanine K33, K34, L1, L2. These seats will all come with folding armrests. Though, there are no elevators up to the Mezzanine.

A limited number of The Wiz tickets will be dispersed through a Digital Online Lottery, with entries to be submitted the day before the show of your choice. Participants in the lottery are limited to one entry per person, per performance.
