New Single: “You Owe Me” by The Chainsmokers

On Friday (Feb. 16) The Chainsmokers dropped their second single of 2018, the dark, lonely-hearts anthem “You Owe Me”. The single was accompanied with a music video which shows Chainsmoker members Alex Pall and Drew Taggart preparing their mansion for a fancy dinner party. “You Owe Me” is unlike most tracks released by The Chainsmokers. Instead of building in “the drop” early on, The Chainsmokers slowed their pace and focused on building a more full sound for this passionate track. Listeners are brought to the near end before any semblance of “a drop”, but “You Owe Me” still manages a joyful listen.

This new single follows “Sick Boy”, a Depeche Mode-esque track that discusses social ills and self preservation in crazy times. Though the song is more solemn than tracks of The Chainsmokers past, “Sick Boy” still falls in line with their other EDM-heavy offerings, and even spurred some incredible remixes upon its release.

The Chainsmokers have yet to announce if “Sick Boy…You Owe Me” will comprise most of an EP, or if they are gearing up to release a new LP in 2018.
