You thought you got rid of them in the early 00’s, but you can’t escape them. In the past year alone, the Jonas Brothers have announced a reunion, 98 Degrees are working on new material, and supergroup NKOTBSB continue to perform. Not only that, but new boybands like The Wanted and One Direction (speaking of, check out One Direction Tour Dates for 2014) have broken records all over the place. They could probably sneeze into a tissue and sell it for millions of dollars. Why?
First of all, it just happened to be good timing. Those old enough to remember the boybands of the 90’s can appreciate their cheesy pop music with nostalgia. Those who were too young have the new generation to appreciate for the first time. It’s obvious that like all things, music comes in cycles. While fashion icons seem to be recycling outfits from the 80’s, it seems that pop music is flashing back to the 90’s, with a blend of electronic music to make it seem fresh. (And this could explain the sudden interest in K-pop, too!)
It seems that One Direction in particular have perfected this formula with their record-breaking ticket sales and chart-topping albums, but I couldn’t really tell you why. I can’t give you one reason why I can listen to One Direction on repeat and then laugh at the idea of even owning a Jonas Brothers song. Perhaps there is some previously untapped formula that One Direction’s management has gotten a hold of, or maybe it’s just because they’re British/Irish, of age, and well groomed. Who knows? The one thing I can attest to is that their music is insanely catchy. It’s only been five days since their newest music video was released and, as of this posting, the video has 24 million views on YouTube. Watch the video below and let that sink in:
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbPED9bisSc&rel=0]One Direction just wrapped up their US tour this summer, but after their next album is released in October, they will return to the states! Their remaining show here will be at Madison Square Garden on December 3. Tickets sold out in record time, of course, but you can purchase and bid for tickets on TickPick!
Also, please don’t judge me.
