When is the Super Bowl LIX Halftime show?
Super Bowl LIX, set to take place February 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, has a listed kick-off time of 5:30 PM (CT).
The Super Bowl Halftime Show usually takes place around 1.5 hours into the game. Which means, fans should get ready for Kendrick’s big performance around 6:45 PM (CT).
What will be the theme of Kendrick Lamar’s Halftime Show?
Let’s take a look back at Kendrick Lamar’s other national TV performances to consider how he will use the Super Bowl halftime show stage. The biggest that comes to mind is his 2016 Grammy Awards show performance of To Pimp A Butterfly tracks “Blacker the Berry” and “Alright.”
Marching onto the stage in handcuffs and a baby blue jumpsuit, Kendrick immediately pulled viewers into the personal and political plight of being a black man in America. Much like his albums, Kendrick doesn’t shy away from delivering a truthful, hard-hitting performance. He doesn’t care about making you uncomfortable.
These themes continued in 2018, with another rousing Grammy performance of his “XXX,” “DNA,” and “King’s Dead.” This time, he brought out several special guests to help execute the legendary moment. One special guest, Dave Chappelle, stated the ethos of his performance perfectly: “The only thing more frightening than watching a black man be honest in America… is *being* an honest black man in America.”
We are bracing ourselves for another jaw-dropping entrance, more cars set on fire, and all of that beautiful righteous anger we feel when listening to Kendrick Lamar’s music. We are also anticipating a searing “Not Like Us” moment, in light of the track’s success and ongoing controversy.
In short: we think Kendrick Lamar is going to use the Super Bowl Halftime Show to stir the pot. But, to our mind, this is why K-Dot was chosen in the first place.
Who will join Kendrick Lamar on stage as surprise guests?
Fans likely remember the epic Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show. Headlined by Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar appeared as one of many very special guests to celebrate his role in Compton’s rap evolution. We wouldn’t be surprised if Kendrick Lamar makes a call to Dr. Dre, or another of his West Coast rap compatriots, for his upcoming show.
One surprise guest we think is a virtual guarantee is SZA, Kendrick’s former TDE labelmate and his upcoming co-headlining partner for the “Grand National” Tour. The pair have so many collaborations to choose from for the big stage, such as CTRL‘s “Doves in the Wind” and “luther” from Kendrick’s latest GNX.
When it comes to other guests, we have a feeling Kendrick is going to keep it “in the family.” We wouldn’t be surprised if his cousin and pgLang rapper Baby Keem make an appearance. Jay Rock, another TDE compadre, could make a Super Bowl debut for Kendrick collabs such as “Money Trees” and “King’s Dead.”
Finally, if Lil Wayne happened to pop in for “Mona Lisa,” a song he never performs live, we wouldn’t be mad about…
