The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2019 Class Has Been Announced
It’s that time of year. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 2019 inductees have been announced. Radiohead, the Cure, Janet Jackson, Stevie Nicks, Roxy Music, Def Leppard, and the Zombies make up this year’s class.
The 34th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place March 29th at Barclays Center. An edited version of the event will later air on HBO, alongside a SiriusXM radio broadcast. Induction ceremony ticket details will be announced in January.
Stevie Nicks, who was inducted in 1998 as a member of Fleetwood Mac, will become the only woman to enter the Hall of Fame on two occasions. “I have a lot to say about this,” Nicks says in a statement to Rolling Stone, “but I will save those words for later. For now I will just say, I have been in a band since 1968. To be recognized for my solo work makes me take a deep breath and smile. It’s a glorious feeling.”
Janet Jackson will be joining her brothers in the Hall of Fame, a surreal family reunion to say the least.
Radiohead were nominated last year, but didn’t get inducted. The band doesn’t seem to care very much about the honor, which we think is pretty rock and roll. In a press release with today’s announcement, a representative for Radiohead wrote, “The band thanks the Hall of Fame voting body and extends congratulations to this year’s fellow inductees.”
The Zombies’ Colin Bluntstone, on the other hand, excitedly welcomes his induction. “It’s one of the most exciting days in my professional career, I think,” Bluntstone said. Longtime Zombies bandmate Rod Argent echoed Blunstone’s sentiment. “I know it’s fashionable in some circles to say, ‘I don’t mind whether I get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or not,’” he tells Rolling Stone. “…to turn the corner and get inducted, feels fantastic … I’m just so delighted.”
The nominees who missed out this year are Rage Against the Machine, Kraftwerk, MC5, Rufus & Chaka Khan, LL Cool J, Devo, Todd Rundgren, and John Prine. We wouldn’t be surprised if one or two of these artists is chosen next year for a prized place within the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Check back in January, when Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony details have been announced. From the all-star jam, to the ethereal covers, you won’t want to miss attending one of the biggest nights in music.
