Wake Billie Joe Up When September Ends

It should not be a surprise to learn that the members of Green Day, over the years, have struggled with substance abuse. Billie Joe Armstrong, the lead singer, was reportedly going cold turkey in the past few years. On the set of American Idiot, the Broadway musical based on the album of the same name, Billie Joe would demand that the entire place be cleaned of alcohol and drugs to nip any temptation in the bud.

However, it appears that Billie Joe has fallen off the wagon. At the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas this past weekend, he went on a long rant about how the producers cut Green Day’s set short for Usher (NSFW: lots of swearing). The whole thing at first appeared to be a natural occurrence – a pissed off rock star complaining about the business. Then, a few days ago, it was announced that Billie Joe was being admitted to rehab, putting a rather unpleasant light on the whole event. This all comes in light of Green Day’s canceled show in Bologna due to an undisclosed illness, which we now can assume has something to do with this.

Green Day’s public appearances for the next week (including Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Ellen DeGeneres Show) are reportedly being postponed.
