For this episode of Warrior of the Week we wanted to highlight the incredible work the non-profit organization Warrior Rising is doing for our community. Warrior Rising helps veterans to “create, improve, and ignite their businesses.” Below is the profile of former vetrepreneur, Jermaine Faltz.
“My name is Jermaine Faltz but I go by Jay. I retired from the Air Force after serving 20 wonderful years as an HVAC Technician. During my time in service, I always noticed how HVAC Techs were taking advantage of the community – mainly the elderly – when it came to repairs to their air-conditioning units by overpricing jobs or making up fake problems. Being an HVAC Tech, I couldn’t put my finger on why would someone with our profession would take advantage of people mainly living in Las Vegas, Nevada – one of the hottest cities in America. Where was the integrity to do a good and honest job right and to take pride in helping someone in need? I took it in my hands to volunteer my professional service and free time through word-of-mouth to help those in need that couldn’t afford service during the peak hot summer months in Vegas.
What drove my passion was one particular situation with a single 101-year-old elderly woman that we all called “Auntie.” Her air conditioner had been out for a week straight in 115 degree summer heat. We came to find out that the company’s technician she called was telling her that she needed a new air conditioning unit and the price he quoted her was alarming and something that she couldn’t afford. So after her niece called me and explained the situation, I made my way to her house and troubleshot her air conditioning unit. After 30 minutes, the only problem I found was a bad fan motor, which was only a $60 part. So after retiring from the Air Force, I wanted to make a difference in the community and take the skills that I learned as an HVAC Technician to start my own HVAC Preventive Maintenance Business. My goal and mission is to give back to the community and to put Honesty and Value into HVAC.”
