Frank Ocean Hints At a New Album

November 28, 2017 by

When rumors regarding a new Frank Ocean album start popping up, fans know better than to invest too much faith, considering how Blonde suffered several delays and arrived two years after its first scheduled release. But after Ocean took to his Tumblr page last night to make a short yet tantalizing statement, fans couldn’t help but feeling hopeful yet again.

Hours after Frank Ocean briefly made physical copies of his surprise project Endless available for Cyber Monday purchasing, he took to his preferred method of fan communication to hint at new music. The cryptic note read: “Well I made the album before 30. I just aint put that bitch out!’ -Quotes from an interview I haven’t given haha.”

The Tumblr note is evidently a reference to one of Ocean’s tweets back in 2012, where he promised “5 before 30“. So far, Ocean has released four full-length projects: nostalgia, ULTRA in 2011, channel ORANGE in 2012, and Endless and Blonde back-to-back in 2016. He turned 30 one month ago, at a Paris is Burning inspired ball. Though no fifth album materialized in time, we think it’s possible there is some foundation to Ocean’s recent Tumblr claims.

Ocean hasn’t been completely quiet in the year since Endless and Blonde. First, there was the gorgeous, masterfully written and composed “Chanel“, followed by Jay-Z and Tyler, the Creator bolstered “Biking“, and understated singles “Lens” and “Provider“. None of these releases were met with an answer as who which album the tracks would belong to, if any. But considering this semi-steady flow of singles, we wouldn’t be surprised if Frank Ocean is in fact sitting on an album and getting ready to release it.

Frank Ocean’s fifth, unreleased album could in fact arrive any second, just as the channel ORANGE artist has dropped albums in the past. The New Orlean’s born singer tends to work and release music at his own pace, and considering how incredible Blonde and his consecutive works have been, we are compelled to trust him. And though we are hesitant to instill too much faith in a new Frank Ocean album approaching, we think that his latest Tumblr post and his accumulated singles since Blonde all point to an upcoming record.
