Listen to Miguel and J. Cole’s New “Come Through and Chill”
Miguel’s fourth album War & Leisure is due out this Friday, December 1st. Leading up to the highly anticipated release, Miguel has recently dropped a new version of “Come Through and Chill” with longtime collaborator J. Cole. The “Power Trip” duo’s new track kicks off with Miguel’s signature smooth, sultry sound, which is elevated by Salaam Remi’s keen producer’s eye and J. Cole’s ingenious rhyming. You can check out audio of the new version of “Come Through and Chill” below.
Originally released in 2016, the new version of “Come Through and Chill” debuted on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show, where Miguel discussed collaborating with J. Cole in addition to his new album War & Leisure. “Cole is always the perfect person to collaborate with,” Miguel told Lowe. “We were kind of listening to the album and going through and trying to understand what we could add was tasteful but didn’t really dilute it too much.”
This is the third time Miguel has collaborated with the Dreamville artist, who dedicates the bulk of his verse to political subjects such as Colin Kaepernick, Donald Trump, and police brutality. “We’re trying not to pay attention, but we have to pay attention,” says Miguel in an interview with Billboard. “With my albums, I always try to take a picture of what’s going on in my life. War & Leisure has political undertones, because that’s what life feels like right now.
Imagine the groovy, alluring beats we’ve heard in past Miguel albums, but rather than discussing matters of the bedroom, these songs deal with questions of ethos. Miguel tells Billboard, “We’re trying to flourish in the middle of all this. We all wake up, and it’s time to be creative and amazing and positive and all the things that we’re supposed to be when you look on Instagram, but then we’re dealing with these same problems, this injustice, wars between politicians with egos. Like, 140 characters are going to get us into a war right now?”
“Come Through and Chill” follows the previously released “Sky Walker” featuring Travis Scott, in addition to “Told You So” and “Pineapple Skies”. War & Leisure will be available everywhere December 1st.
