2015 Lineup
Saturday, August 22

Love him or hate him, Kanye West is without a doubt one of the biggest figures in the entire music industry, and he’s firmly cemented his place as one of the best-selling artists of all time. He’s sold millions of records and won an astounding 21 Grammy Awards over the years, and is currently listed as one of Time’s 100 most influential people in the world. With an ego as big as his net worth, he’s been known to run his mouth on some pretty controversial issues, but despite his often abrasive nature, you can’t deny that the guy makes good music (or G.O.O.D. Music, as his label is called). Yeezus himself will be standing in for Frank Ocean as the Saturday headliner at this year’s FYF Fest, so it’s sure to be an interesting event that you won’t want to miss.

British indie rock outfit Bloc Party skyrocketed to fame in 2005 with the release of their debut album “Silent Alarm.” The album went on to achieve platinum certification in the U.K. and be named as NME’s album of the year, propelling the band toward indie rock stardom. The group, led by vocalist Kele Okereke and guitarist Russell Lissack, has released three more successful albums since then. Their latest, simply titled “Four,” dropped in 2012 and peaked at #3 on the U.K. Albums Chart and at #36 on the U.S. Billboard 200.

Before their official disbandment, Barlow was fired from the band (and would later go on to form the groups Sebadoh and Folk Implosion), while Murph eventually quit. Morrissey
Best known as the frontman of the beloved ’80s indie band The Smiths, Morrissey is one of the most renowned vocalists out there today, and is often regarded as one of the most influential musicians and lyricists of the last century. The Smiths were so successful partly due to Morrissey’s relatable and often cynical lyrics, which conveyed themes like anxiety, isolation, and romantic frustration that resonated with a wide audience. After the breakup of The Smiths in 1987, Morrissey carried on with a solo career, which commenced with the release of his album “Viva Hate” in 1988. He has since released nine more studio albums and to this day remains one of the biggest names in the music industry. His solo sets are spectacular, and he’s known to throw some Smiths favorites in there, so he is definitely one performer you won’t want to miss at FYF this year.

R&B singer D’Angelo came onto the scene in 1995 with his hit debut album “Brown Sugar.” After a several-year hiatus, he came back with the 2000 album “Voodoo,” for which he won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. Solange’s first record, “Solo Star,” saw the light in 2003, but was only a modest success. However, she came back in full force with her 2008 sophomore album “Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams,” which marked somewhat of a creative breakthrough for her, offering a much more unique sound than her first effort and selling twice as many copies, landing in the top ten of the Billboard 200.

Their latest record came out in 2012, and they recently announced that they are currently working on another.

FYF Fest 2014 | A Summer Music Festival Lineup We Love
Never heard of FYF Fest? Think of it as Coachella’s little (but not technically related) sister. FYF Fest 2014 will take place August 23rd & 24th at the LA Sports Arena and Exposition Park. The lineup has officially been released, and from what we can tell, the festival has only improved from last year. Now, we’ve seen this kind of growth occur with music festivals such as Governor’s Ball and Outside Lands. So what are we saying? We suggest getting tickets to FYF Fest 2014 for several reasons, but first and foremost, because we think this festival is only going to get bigger. Besides The Strokes, Phoenix, and Interpol headlining the festival, we think the best part about FYF Fest is that the lineup includes the most promising talent in the industry. Here are a few reasons to consider buying FYF Fest 2014 tickets on May 22nd, the first date for ticket sales.
The Future Island’s Tour Dates tell us that FYF Fest 2014 will be one of the last chances you will be able to catch these rising stars this summer. Even though the Future Islands are set to appear at a few other summer music festivals, namely Portland’s MusicFestNW and Boston Calling, we think that FYF Fest is the best bang for your buck. The ticket prices are cheaper than for Boston Calling, and the line up for FYF Fest is packed with bigger acts than MusicFestNW. Future Islands have taken off since their dazzling performance on Letterman left both the audience and show host himself speechless. And since this may be your last chance to see Future Islands crooning frontman Samuel T. live on a smaller stage, why not take it?
And what about the return of the Blood Brothers? Even though this summer is packed with surprise reunion tours, this is still something no one saw coming. The band left it up to the festival to announce their comeback, and now this has become one of the biggest selling points to attend the festival. The Blood Brothers haven’t played together in seven years, and no other Blood Brothers shows have been announced for the year. This alone should convince you that FYF Fest 2014 is going to be a really special weekend.
As for Tyler the Creator’s friend and young rap prodigy Earl Sweatshirt, FYF Fest 2014 is the absolute last show that he will be performing this summer. Besides a show at NYC’s Irving Plaza and a set at Governor’s Ball, Earl Sweatshirt doesn’t have many shows scheduled in North America following his UK tour. For us, Earl Sweatshirt’s name on the line up was definitely one of the reasons why we thought people should go. Earl Sweatshirt will add some variation to the lineup which is very indie and alt rock heavy, in addition to repping the rising hip-hop collective Odd Future. Earl Sweatshirt is another example of an artist who won’t be occupying small stages for much longer.
Remember when Haim was just a San Fernando Valley girl band playing at small venues around UCLA? The American sister trio has had quite the fast and exciting career, beginning with one incredibly successful set at SXSW 2012 and the release of the well received LP Forever. Now, Haim has taken on the main stage at Glastonbury, in addition to spending a whole year as the headlining act at venues across the U.S and UK. FYF Fest 2014 is the last North American tour date listed on Haim’s tour schedule. This has been quite the year for them, and what could be better than topping off the summer with being in the audience as Haim finishes off an incredible year of touring?
What we’re saying: FYF Fest 2014 will be a great time. The festival is small in size compared to other summer music festivals like Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo. But for a weekend ticket, you’re only paying 129$ (plus any added fees) to see some really big talent. The first round of tickets go on sale in just two days. And if you still need a bit of convincing, check out this recap from FYF Fest 2013.
