Is Ariana Grande Working On A New Album?

August 1, 2023 by

In February, fans saw an rare glimpse of Ariana Grande in the studio. At the time, she was recording vocals for the forthcoming remix of The Weeknd’s “Die For You.” Grande reminded us in the social media post of her current, ongoing commitment to the movie adaptation of Wicked. Grande noted the 14 hour day on set, but how she had to make an exception for her friend. Shortly after, we were gifted the incredible chart-topping new remix.

Though fans were hoping Ariana was in the studio for more than contributing vocals, the news was better than what they’d received around the same time last year. Back in May 2022, Grande confirmed she had not begun working on a new album. She was taking her time, a longer period than she usually does between records, to focus on her dream role of Glinda the Good Witch.

But now we think Ariana Grande is finally getting ready to release new music—or, more likely, that a new album is on the way.

Why does the internet believe Ariana Grande will announce her new album in November?

Let us begin with: this might sound like a stretch. But it’s a theory fans are running with right now, as they are desperate to hear new music news from the “love me harder” singer. Recently, as of last month, Ariana Grande archived over 4,000 of her Instagram posts. This includes her iconic “no tears left to cry” posts, gone but never forgotten.

Naturally, the big social media sweep has ignited thousands of fans and fan theories. Essentially, conspirators and rumor mills are looking at the number of posts Ariana Grande has left: 114. Or, if you look at it another way, November 4th.

Unfortunately, Ariana Grande has already amended her Instagram face to a different number of posts, 109. Still, the theories were fun while they lasted. It got us thinking: could Ariana Grande be, at the very least, getting ready to begin a new album season? Is this the first of many social media purges she makes before announcing her highly anticipated, seventh studio album?

Who will be the featured guests on Ariana Grande’s new album?

In the time since her last LP, 2020’s Positions, Ariana Grande has only strengthened her connections with rap and hip-hop artists. Positions featured a number of rap and hip-hop heavyweights such as Doja Cat, The Weeknd, and Ty Dolla $ign. Not to mention the steamy “34 + 35 (Remix)” with brought Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion on for an incredibly hot take.

This week, Grande commented on Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 announcement and even shared it to her Instagram story. Grande said, “we are ready and we are grateful,” showing immense support for the Queen of Pink, the Barbie herself, Nicki Minaj. This leads us to believe: Ariana Grande is likely to appear on Nicki Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday 2,” and Nicki is likely to appear on Grande’s seventh LP.

Wicked, and Ariana Grande’s divorce from Dalton Gomez

We can’t ignore what Ariana Grande has said about working on a new album, and focusing on her starring role in the production of Wicked.

“The truth is, I have not begun an album. I know I hear through the grapevine that you have a lot of theories and expectations in that department, but after Positions, I was not ready to start another album yet. So I have not begun another album.”

Ariana went on to explain, saying, “[Wicked] is going to have every piece of me, every minute, every ounce of my heart, my time, my soul, my everything that I can give it. So, my hands are quite full with a lot of other ‘thrillifying’ work at the moment.”

But this was before the announcement of her separation, and then divorce, from her husband of two years, Dalton Gomez. From past experience with Ariana Grande albums, they tend to hasten, and develop, post-breakup. We don’t mean to be insensitive, but when it comes to new Ariana Grande music, we are optimistic she will turn to making music during this difficult, personal time. Just like she always has.

Does this mean we will receive a new album soon? Not likely. But, we’re hopeful she won’t be able to stay away from the studio for much longer. Though she’s very busy in the run up to Wicked—set to premier on November 27, 2024—we think Grande will need her songwriting outlet before too long. We wouldn’t be surprised, actually, if some of the songs that eventually appear on her new album have already been written…
