New Amsterdam Theatre Seating Chart Information
Unlike the majority of Broadway theaters, the New Amsterdam Theatre does not have obstructed view seats on the sides of the orchestra and mezzanine. However, the last couple of rows of the mezzanine may obstruct your view if you are taller, due to the overhang of the balcony. If any seats are partially obstructed, it will be noted in the listing regardless of where you purchase your tickets. Balcony Row A overhangs the Mezzanine starting at Row DD, and Mezzanine Row A overhangs at Orchestra Row P.
Now, even though the seats on the far right and left sides of the orchestra sections are not obstructed, they are still not optimal for watching the performance. In most cases, I would prefer to sit one row further back in exchange for a seat that is one seat closer to the inside aisle (i.e., I would prefer seat 15 in Row O, versus seat 17 in Row N). The right side of the New Amsterdam Theatre has even-numbered seats, and the left side has odd-numbered seats. In the center sections, the seat numbers are consecutive.
When buying tickets directly from the NY box office, your seat numbers will often be assigned. However, for privacy purposes, tickets resold on sites like StubHub don’t have to state their seat numbers (only the row and section). For this reason, I don’t recommend buying tickets in the Orchestra Right or Orchestra Left for Rows BB-G on secondary ticket marketplaces (Ticketmaster and Telecharge are okay). Here, you would run the risk of purchasing tickets with significantly obstructed views, taking away from the experience of seeing what’s up on stage. If the prices seem too good to be true, they probably are.
New Amsterdam Theatre and Aladdin Reviews
Here are a few of the more helpful reviews found on Yelp:
“I saw some people complain about the spaciousness of the seats here, and I wondered if either 1) they have not been to other B’way theaters, or 2) the seats are different in different parts of the theaters. This is the fifth Broadway theater I’ve been to, and the New Amsterdam was, by far, the most comfortable. My wife and I found the seats comfortable and reasonably spacious, and in the Orchestra seats, we had more legroom than I’ve found in the other theaters I’ve visited.
The New Amsterdam is a lovely old theater that has been refurbished by Disney. I found the place impressive–lovely old ambiance, good seats, terrific sound. There are a lot of stairs to navigate to get to the bathrooms, but a disabled bathroom is available on the main floor.
I went to see Aladdin and found it very colorful, energetic, and fun. The sets were terrific, the performances were great, dancing and singing were, as expected, great. I think the show would be appealing for everyone, but if you’re a Disney fan, there are plenty of inside jokes (plus a great and comedic mashup of Disney hits sung by the Genie in the first act.)”

“Came here to watch Aladdin and it was pretty awesome.
Of course, the show was amazing with great singing and dancing. Though I’m a Disney nerd so I may be a bit biased. My mind is still blown as to how they made the carpet fly so beautifully! The sets were gorgeous and so were the costumes! I liked how they included “Proud of Your Boy”, which had been cut from the Disney movie. Also, Genie did such a great job. It was amazing. Given the chance, I definitely would watch it again.
The theater itself is beautiful. We were sitting in the mezzanine and I had a wonderful view of the stage. The space can get crowded, but it’s the same with most Broadway theaters. It took a while to head to the bathrooms, but despite the lack of spaciousness they did a great job with the layout..though I’m not an interior designer, I can’t say much
Overall it was a great experience!”

Lottery/Rush
For a chance to get very cheap tickets on the same day of the show, you can enter the digital lottery. If you win the lottery, you can get 1 or 2 tickets for $30 each. The drawback to these tickets is that you have no control over where the seats are or if they have a partial view. But, at the end of the day, you cannot beat the price.
New Amsterdam Theatre Overview
