St. Vincent Announces ‘Masseduction’ and Drops New Single
After a series of cryptic videos co-written by Carrie Brownstein and released via Instagram, alt-rock artist St. Vincent has officially announced the title and release date of her upcoming album. The new, highly anticipated follow-up to 2015’s self-titled album will be titled MASSEDUCTION and drop October 13th on Loma Vista Recordings. So for those of you who thought they would have to wait until St. Vincent’s ‘Fear the Future’ Tour—set to kick off in November—to hear new music, it looks like we’re just over a month until we can hear what the innovative guitarist/singer/songwriter has been up to.
Not only did St. Vincent announce her new album, but she also dropped the second single off of MASSEDUCTION, titled “Los Ageless“. The track involves fuzzy guitar reminiscent of her highly acclaimed self-titled album and electro beats that drive the track home. MASSEDUCTION is co-produced by Jack Antonoff, who seems to hand in the biggest pop projects of this music era, including Lorde and Taylor Swift. Although “Los Ageless” is a clear shift in direction, it’s done so with St. Vincent’s satiric muscles and unique method of transposition. You can check out the new single “Los Ageless” below:
Though St. Vincent seems to be aiming for the mainstream, her upcoming album is no less surreal and authentic in its content. “Themes of power and sex, imperiled relationships and death slice through the album,” the press release says, adding a quote from St. Vincent: “Every record I make has an archetype. ‘Strange Mercy’ was Housewives on Pills. ‘St. Vincent’ was Near-Future Cult Leader. ‘Masseduction’ is different, it’s pretty first person. You can’t fact-check it, but if you want to know about my life, listen to this record.”
Special guests on the album include Thomas Bartlett on piano, Kamasi Washington on saxophone, Jenny Lewis on vocals, and beat production from Sounwave. MASSEDUCTION drops October 13th, just ahead of St. Vincent’s ‘Fear the Future’ Tour. You can check out the full track listing below:
