The Bathrooms at Riot Fest – Some Advice
Porta-potties are just a necessary evil at Riot Fest and long-time festivalgoers have come to know them well. Hey, you’re in a giant Chicago park and you’ve gotta go somewhere – somewhere that’s not the grass! The lines, the smells… Just embrace these plastic blue boxes as your toilet for the weekend! (Unless of course, you’re fancy and opt for Deluxe or Ultimate tickets.)
Let’s get honest for a minute here. As your bathroom experience at Riot Fest will (most likely) be exclusively in porta-potties, set your expectations correctly and come prepared. According to Riot Fest veterans, they’re not so bad on the first day. But come Sunday, three days into a massive punk rock festival, they could be, um, smelly and potentially running low on toilet paper. For that reason, consider bringing your own tissues and hand sanitizer. Really, there’s no better way to bond with other fans waiting in line than by sharing these essentials!
Another quick tip: If you need some privacy while you do your business, previous festivalgoers have also recommended making the trek to the porta-potties that are farthest away from the stages. They tend to stay the cleanest and have the shortest lines. Even when you include walking time, it will still be faster than waiting with the big crowds!
On the other hand, some of the people you meet while waiting in line for the bathroom at Riot Fest could turn into friends for life! There have even been rumors of chivalrous gentlemen who will hold the porta-potty door for you!
While you’re navigating the stages and checking off all the bands you want to see, be sure to take a quick look at the map to learn where the bathrooms are. You can view a map of the 2018 festival grounds here. Last year, there were bathrooms by the box office at the entrance, between the Hellzapoppin Circus Sideshow and Rebel Stage, beside the Radicals Stage and Riot Mall, and along the path to the Rise Stage just before the food vendors.
Even better, download the Riot Fest app so you always have a map handy – be sure to get the app once they update it for 2019!
Alternate Bathroom Options
Not excited about the prospect of waiting in line for the bathroom? Consider grabbing yourself a VIP ticket. They’ll still be porta-potties, but the masses won’t be using them. Only other VIPs like you! According to previous festivalgoers, the private VIP bathrooms are great and the lines are short.
Not excited about the idea of using porta-potties at all? We hear you. If you’re a little bit squeamish and prefer not to use those plastic boxes-turned-toilets, check out the Deluxe and Ultimate ticket options. They have their own private bathrooms for ticket-holders. And they have AC too!
