The Best Jam Bands On Tour This Summer
Jam bands and improvisational rock music have a long, storied tradition in the U.S. From early jam band pioneers such as Hot Tuna, to the fanatic following of Phish, this genre tends to draw only the most dedicated and intense of music fans.
Now that summer is in full swing, we know you’re looking for some concerts to highlight your season. Here are The Best Jam Bands On Tour This Summer and Fall, the most talented jam bands hitting the road in 2025.
Contents
Phish
No summer is complete without Phish hitting the road. Phishheads across the U.S can catch the legendary, Trey Anastasio-led jam band in several cities this summer, performing three nights at each stop.
Can you believe it’s been 40 years since Phish first stepped out on the road? The community-forming rock band will be on the road from June 20 through July 27, performing major arenas nationwide. Don’t miss your chance to see Phish this summer, as the band never disappoints on delivering some of the best live music in the country.
Goose
Connecticut-based jam quartet Goose will be on tour this summer in fall, supporting their new LP Everything Must Go. There are a number of special shows plotted along Goose’s 2025 Summer/ Fall tour, including one night with Mt. Joy, a two-night residency at Louisville Palace, and a co-headlining show with The Big Fun Duo.
Fans can catch Goose on the road from May 27 through Sep. 30. The indie jam band, now out with their first record since 2022’s Dripfield, is making the most of this moment with such an extensive North American tour.
Umphrey’s McGee
Fans are in for a slightly new chapter of jam band Umphrey’s McGee, as they are now touring with new drummer Scotty Zwang. Complete with the new band member, Umphrey’s McGee has recently resumed their “Cruising Altitudes” Tour. The veteran prog-rock band will perform throughout the summer, with a final show plotted for Sep. 14 at the Mishawaka Amphitheatre.
If fans are worried Scotty Zwang won’t be able to hang with the complex drumming in the Umphrey’s McGee catalog—don’t be. The sextet is putting his skills to the test on tour, opening with songs such as “Hurt Bird Bath.”
The Disco Biscuits
The Disco Biscuits, the multi-genre jamtronica pioneers hailing from Philly, are about to have an epic summer of shows. Earlier this year, they announced the final extension of their 30th Anniversary Summer Tour, which will take them on the road from June 4 through July 13.
Fans who venture out to see The Disco Biscuits this year will hear tracks such as “M.E.M.P.H.I.S,” “Astronaut,” “Crickets,” “Pilin’ It Up High,” and more. According to recent concert reviews, the Disco Biscuits are playing at the top of their game, merging and revamping tracks all across their arsenal. It sounds like this will be one of the best Disco Biscuits tours to date.
Hot Tuna
Hot Tuna, the blues rock and jam band formed in 1969 by Jefferson Airplane members Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, has always featured a fluid and evolving lineup. This summer, fans will get to experience both the electric and acoustic versions of Hot Tuna. Performances will include new songs, old staples, and covers. Hot Tuna will be performing with multi-instrumentalist Barry Mitterhoff and drummer Skoota Warner (for the electric portion of the gigs).
85 and still flying, it would be a shame to miss Hot Tuna on this extensive tour which promises to celebrate their catalog to the fullest. Catch Hot Tuna on the road this summer and fall, from July 18 through November 5.
Yonder Mountain String Band
Progressive bluegrass and jam music—otherwise known as jamgrass—has several players but only a few legends. One of those jamgrass legends comes in the form of the Yonder Mountain String Band. Composed of Dave Johnston, Ben Kaufmann, Adam Aijala, and Nick Piccininni, the Yonder Mountain String Band is determined to get audiences up on their feet and dance.
This summer, Yonder Mountain String Band will perform a number of solo headlining shows in addition to shows with Railroad Earth and Leftover Salmon. This lengthy summer tour comes in support of their new album, Nowhere Next, which features their perfected mix of blues, rock, funk, and soul. We can’t wait to hear how the new album sounds live in concert this summer.
