Kendrick Lamar Duckworth, better known as Kendrick Lamar, is a rapper, songwriter, and overall tour-de-force who came straight outta Compton. He rose to popularity in 2010 with the release of his mixtape Overly Dedicated, and the following year his album Section 80, which he released exclusively through iTunes, ranked as one of the best digital hip hop releases of the year. His major-label debut good kid, m.A.A.d city debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 and was certified platinum by the RIAA. He received seven Grammy nominations in 2014, including Best New Artist, Album of the Year, and Best Rap Song, and in 2015 he took home the award for Best Rap Performance. With that long list of accomplishments achieved in such a short amount of time, Lamar has proven that he’s one of the best rappers in the business right now.

Glasgow-based synthpop trio Chvrches mercifully stylizes their name with a V in order to make it easier to search for them on the internet (thanks, guys). The group formed in 2011 and is comprised of vocalist Lauren Mayberry along with keyboardists Iain Cook and Martin Doherty. In 2012, the band’s songs “The Mother We Share” and “Lies” earned them some buzz around the internet, leading to the chance to open shows for Passion Pit on their U.K. tour. Chvrches later finished fifth in BBC’s prestigious Sound of 2013 poll, and that same year released their acclaimed debut album, The Bones of What You Believe. The band recently released their sophomore album, titled Every Open Eye.

During the band’s beginnings in the late 1980s, Jane’s Addiction piqued the interest of several record labels before signing with Warner Bros. in 1988. That year they released their debut studio album, Nothing’s Shocking. The album did well enough, but its 1990 follow-up, Ritual de lo Habitual, was the band’s real commercial breakthrough. Jane’s Addiction has had its ups, downs, breakups and reunions over the years, but nonetheless came back strong in 2011 to release their latest album, The Great Escape Artist. Though they have only released four studio albums to date, Jane’s Addiction has still established a lasting legacy as one of the most influential alternative rock bands of the late twentieth century. Fans definitely won’t want to miss this show, during which the band will be playing Ritual de lo Habitual in full.

Brooklyn’s X Ambassadors was originally formed by brothers Sam and Casey Harris and their childhood friend Noah Feldshuh in upstate New York. This summer, the group released their debut full-length album VHS, which contains their #1 rock song “Renegades.” Join them as they rock the House of Blues for two sold-out shows this month.

Chicago’s Chancelor Bennett, a.k.a. Chance the Rapper, made his breakthrough with the release of his 2013 mixtape Acid Rap, which has since been downloaded over 900,000 times. The mixtape featured the likes of Childish Gambino, Ab-Soul, and Action Bronson, and received high praise from major critics from Rolling Stone, Spin, Pitchfork, and NPR among others. Thus far, the 22-year-old rapper has only released a few mixtapes, yet he has earned a high enough profile to be a headliner at some festivals this year. We’re expecting big things from this young talent in the years to come.

Canadian indie rock band Metric formed in Toronto in 1998. Consisting of vocalist Emily Haines, guitarist James Shaw, bassist Joshua Winstead, and drummer Joules Scott-Key, the band has retained the same lineup since 2001. Metric has released six studio albums to date, in between which Haines and Shaw recorded and performed as members of Canadian indie rock supergroup Broken Social Scene. The band spent this summer touring with Imagine Dragons, after which they released their sixth record, titled Pagans in Vegas.

The duo, which features Southern natives Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard, released their debut full-length in 2012, selling over 2 million copies and achieving double platinum certification. Passion Pit began as the solo project of musician Michael Angelakos. What started as a Valentine’s Day gift for his girlfriend at the time eventually became his debut EP, Chunk of Change. As the frontman of the wildly successful rock band Hootie & the Blowfish, Darius Rucker has been in the limelight since the 1990s. Rucker was initially supposed to make his solo debut in 2001 with an R&B record called The Return of Mongo Slade, but Atlantic Records made the decision not to release the album. However, it was eventually picked up by the independent label Hidden Beach Recordings, which released the album in 2002, with the name changed to Back to Then. In 2008, Rucker switched gears once again and signed with Capitol Records Nashville to start recording as a country artist. He has since released five country albums, the latest of which was released in March of this year.

Indie rock duo Best Coast, consisting of Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno, will be bringing the California sunshine to Dallas’ Granada Theater on Wednesday, June 24. After gaining some attention with their initial recordings, the band signed with Mexican Summer and released their 2010 debut album Crazy For You, a collection of lo-fi, surf rock-inspired songs that was met with surprising commercial success. They followed that up two years later with their sophomore effort The Only Place, which had a much more polished sound quality than their debut. Best Coast released an EP on Cosentino’s new label in 2013, followed by a new album called California Nights in May.
