Watch Chance the Rapper’s Tiny Desk Concert

Last month, Chance the Rapper dropped by NPR’s Tiny Desk studios to give an intimate performance for the radio station’s employees. In the stripped down setting, Chance performed alongside his longtime friends and collaborators The Social Experiment and vocal group Thirdstory. The concert was delivered in Chano like fashion: joyfully, full of laughs and impromptu moments.

“I didn’t know it was actually, actually in an office,” Chance said in his introduction, before opening with a laid back, stripped down version of “Juke Jam”. Then, he interrupted his performance to recite a poem he wrote that morning, in a car on the way from his hotel in D.C to NPR’s Music Offices titled “The Otherside”.

“I still have all the keys that are of no use to me,” he began. “They used to, though. On the other side was a mansion on a hill, complete with L.A. pools and fireplaces and a rim made specifically for people that lie about being six feet to dunk on.” After the poem, Chance rounded out the performance with a rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “They Won’t Go When I Go”, which was dedicated to a friend who recently lost a friend. Chance the Rapper, as per usual, captivated his surrounding audience with charm and his modest music arrangements. Check out the full concert below:

We hope to see “The Otherside” worked into a future performance, or perhaps a new track. Chance the Rapper will be performing in New York City this Fall at Forest Hills Stadium, and again in conjunction with Dave Chapelle at his Radio City Music Hall residency.
