Weezer Shares “Zombie Bastards”, Reveal New Album Release Date
In 1994, four bold nerds dressed in clothes just a tad too big for their bodies, and shot a rock album cover. Their debut, self-titled LP contained timeless singles. “Undone (The Sweater Song)”. “Say It Ain’t So”. “Holiday”. Since then, every other Weezer album has contained radio-changing hits, singles that may even exist within those encrypted capsules launched into outer space containing the artistic strands of our humanity. Feel like I’m exaggerating? I mean come on. Who were we before 2005’s “Beverly Hills”?
Now, after a year of strange fame, Weezer is back with their second single since 2017’s Pacific Daydream. The new song, “Zombie Bastards“, will be included on their upcoming LP, The Black Album. You can check out the slow burning, electro-pop track below.
“Zombie Bastards” arrives during high tide for Weezer, who had their first Hot 100 hit since 2009 earlier this year with a cover of Toto’s “Africa”. So far, the two Black Album singles indicate a more contemporary, electronic pop sound, though still punctuated by the same rock edge they’ve used for decades. Still midtempo, still full of River Cuomos’ heart, Weezer is the band we continue to love, and need.
Next year, Weezer and Pixies will embark together for a massive North America and UK tour, which includes a Madison Square Garden show with guest star TV On The Radio—who has produced the upcoming Black Album. In addition to dropping “Zombie Bastards”, Weezer recently announced The Black Album will arrive on March 1, just a week before heading out on the road.
