Army vs Navy Basketball Preview - Saturday, February 8th

February 4, 2014 by

On Saturday, February 8th, 2014, the Navy Midshipmen (7-15, 2-9) will go toe-to-toe with the Army Black Knights (12-10, 8-3) at Christl Arena in West Point.  The game will take place at 4:00 pm, and will be preceded by the Army/Navy Women’s basketball game at 1:30 pm.

The Army/Navy rivalry runs very deep, and while the rivalry is best known for the annual football game, the atmosphere at Christl Arena remains the most anticipated treat for fans of the Army Black Knights basketball team.  You can count on a full house at Christl Arena, packed with Army fans cheering the Black Knights after every bucket and defensive stop.  Army is currently ranked 3rd in the Patriot League, having won 11 of its past 15 games, while Navy is struggling as of late, having lost 12 of the past 14 games and 6 straight.

The Mids lead the series 53-38, but the Black Knights have won the last three meetings and four of the last five.

When Army and Navy face off, the players can feel the importance of the game and they fight to win every possession.  Army/Navy games tend to go down to the wire, with seven of the past nine meetings having been decided by fewer than 10 points, and four of those games having been decided by no more than five points.  Army and Navy play a physical style of play, and the significance of this rivalry brings out the best in both teams.

When Army and Navy faced off earlier this season in Annapolis, the Black Knights got the best of the Mids 60-55, in an exciting game that saw 8 ties and 5 lead-changes.  A second half surge by Army was too much for Navy to handle, but they will look to come into West Point and break a three game losing streak to Army on Saturday.

Both teams are fighting for seeding position in the Patriot League conference championships, which begins March 3rd, 2014.
