Belasco Theatre History
David Belasco opened the Stuyvesant in October 1907 and eventually changed the name to Belasco Theatre in 1910. It originally had the decor of a Gothic church and the architecture was also unique.
Belasco built the auditorium of the theatre as a living room, an homage to the “Little Theater” movement where the audience is much closer to the actors.

Belasco Theatre Seating Options
Belasco Theatre’s seating option is similar to that of other theatres. It is broken up into three sections: Orchestra, Mezzanine, and Balcony. Each of those sections is then broken up into Left, Center, and Right.

Best Seats at Belasco Theatre
If you’re not worried about the budget, the best seats at Belasco Theatre are in Center Orchestra, particularly all seats in Rows D to K. If you sit too up close, your view might be blocked so we recommend Rows D to K for that reason.
For those hoping to save a bit of money, but still get a great view of the stage, we recommend sitting in Center Mezzanine at any seat in Rows C to F or in Center Orchestra at any seats in Rows F to O.
Obstructed Seats at the Belasco Theatre
You might get an obstructed view if you sit in Rows A, B, and C of the Orchestra. That’s because these seats are very close to the stage and certain scenes may be hard to see. Also, far left or far right seats in Balcony Left and Balcony Right can oftentimes have an obstructed view.
Accessible Seating at Belasco Theatre
There are accessible seating options at Belasco Theatre in the Orchestra section where there are no steps and eight wheelchair spaces across rows J-P. A bit further back in the same section are eight transfer seats in rows H-P. Companion seats are available for all these options.
There are also accessible seats in the Mezzanine and Balcony, but they are only accessible by two flights of stairs. Also, keep in mind that there is a step-free entrance to the theater as well.
