Macklemore Drops New Song ‘Drug Dealer’
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have released a new track which tackles the devastating scope of opioid addiction. The new song, titled “Drug Dealer”, features the vocals of Ariana DeBoo and co-production by Joshua “Budo” Karp. “Drug Dealer” is characterized by its subdued piano, poignant lyrics, and emotional chorus. Though the new song is deeply personal, it speaks on behalf of much larger issues such as the opioid addiction epidemic in America. You can check out “Drug Dealer” below:
The Seattle rapper has often spoken candidly about overcoming addiction, through his music and otherwise. Between the release of his past three LPs, Macklemore has admitted to relapse and temptation, highlighting his closeness to the issue, and the intimacy he’s put forth in his latest track and documentary. In our opinion, “Drug Dealer” is one of the best songs he’s penned in his entire career, which makes sense considering his closeness to its subject matter.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis wrote the new track for the premier of the rapper’s new MTV documentary, Prescription for Change: Ending America’s Opioid Crisis. The documentary notably features a conversation between Macklemore and President Obama discussing what has become one of America’s leading causes of death. Following his visit with the president, Macklemore traveled back to his hometown of Seattle to talk to communities affected by the opioid crisis, bringing him close with individuals who have suffered from addiction like he has.
Though This Unruly Mess I’ve Made didn’t deliver as well as The Heist, we’re excited about what Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have been up to. You can watch the full MTV episode Prescription for Change here.
