Ryan Adams sets Release Date for Taylor Swift Cover Album

September 17, 2015 by

Since early August, prolific singer/songwriter Ryan Adams has been teasing us with a Taylor Swift 1989 cover album. And just like that, both Ryan Adams fans, Taylor Swift fans, and Taylor Swift herself began eagerly awaiting a final word on when and how the album will drop. For awhile, we didn’t think the album would transpire, and that maybe Adams’ would just release a couple of covers just for fun. But now, specifically at 12PM this afternoon, Ryan Adams premiered his cover of “Bad Blood” exclusively via Apple Beats 1. Fans were also gifted with an official release date: On September 21st, Ryan Adams 1989 will be available for digital launch. Check out Adams cover “Bad Blood” here.

Ryan Adams 1989

As you can imagine, Ryan Adams has put quite a different spin on Swift’s prized pop album, shifting the color of the tracks over to the alt-rock vibes he’s been known to master. We know, via Instagram, that he’s brought in a string quartet to help record “Blank Space“, indicating that Adams has taken the song to sad depths Swift never bothered to wander down. So for those of you who enjoyed Swift’s lyricism and the themes of her tracks but couldn’t get behind her pop sound, then you’re sure to find contentment with Adams’ guitar-driven, blue toned take on what has been one of the biggest albums the world has listened to this year.

If you’re a diehard Swift fan, we can understand your hesitation to support Ryan Adams’ latest project. But rest assured, this is a dream come true for Taylor, who has given her seal of approval from the very beginning. Music is meant to inspire, and make us feel. And now, Taylor Swift’s album is living on through the imagination of someone who, at the beginning of her own career, played a role in inspiring her. Isn’t it great when life comes full circle like that?
