TicketsNow Review - Is Tickets Now legit or is it a scam?

October 18, 2013 by

Asking about Tickets Now scams is like asking about TickPick’s buyers fees – they simply don’t exist. However, that’s not to say that Tickets Now is a squeaky clean business that takes care of its customers. Far from it, and if you are looking for cheap tickets, there are much better options out there than TicketsNow.

What is TicketsNow?

For those of you who are already familiar with TicketsNow, feel free to skip over this part and jump straight to the Reviews, but for those of you who maybe aren’t familiar, I thought it would be useful to provide you with some background.

TicketsNow is an online ticket marketplace, meaning that TicketsNow doesn’t actually own any of the tickets that it sells – it serves as an online location where people who want to buy tickets can see what tickets are being sold by various ticket brokers. In February of 2008, TicketsNow was acquired by TicketMaster.

Ticket Now Reviews

The consumer affairs website lists 122 “complaints and reviews” – with 88% giving TicketsNow a 1 star review. On Yelp, customer experiences run the gamut with a few having amazing experiences and giving TicketsNow five star reviews, while many reviews complain about TicketsNow failing to keep their word and poor customer service. Some of their problems are understandable and arguably not their fault. Some customers simply didn’t seem to understand that TicketsNow was a marketplace for ticket resellers and not an actual ticket broker. In the majority of reviews, however, TicketsNow could have done a lot more to provide customers with a good experience. Yelp and ConsumerAffairs.com abound with reviews of apathetic customer service representatives who misinform or don’t try to help seemingly honest TicketsNow customers. Take for example, the following Tickets Now customer who posted this review on Yelp:

Beware! I called in a last minute order for 2 Coldplay tickets. At first, I was told that the tickets would be e-mailed. Just before the transaction went through, I was told that I had to pick them up at a broker office close to the United Center. When I arrived, the box office was closed and there was a note that said “pick tickets up at United Center will-call.” There were no tickets at will-call. The security officer told me that this stuff happens every day. The company did provide an emergency number. I called it; a broker called me back every 15 minutes stating that he did not know where my tickets were and that he was “home now.” I told him that I would reject the fees at the credit card company. He stated that that was fine. Now I get a call from Tickets Now stating that I should split the cost of the tickets/loss with them as I did not show up exactly when the concert started! I was not told that I had to be there for the opening band! The credit card company will reject the charge. The tickets now representative told me that they could go after me personally. Since that is a threat, now I will be looking to sue. I have never sued anyone but this is crazy.

To be fair, TicketsNow does have some good reviews, where customers used TicketsNow and enjoyed the event they purchased tickets for. For example,

I never write online reviews, but, after my experience with Tickets Now, I feel compelled to. I bought two tickets for Ohio State’s home opener last weekend. After I made my purchase, I found several negative reviews of Tickets Now online. Immediately, I wondered if I had made the right decision. Much to my surprise, my tickets were available to be printed just hours after my credit card was authorized. The tickets were excellent (six rows from the field!) and surprisingly cheap (just $15 over face value). The processing fees were significantly lower than other sites and, when paired with the convenience of being able to print them out (perfect for me since Columbus is a 3.5 hour drive away), it almost seemed TOO good to be true. I began to panic, thinking that maybe my tickets weren’t real. I was nervous until the very moment my ticket was scanned, but, once again, to my surprise, everything turned out just fine! The seats were wonderful, the company was great, and the game was exactly what I had hoped it would be.

TicketsNow Tickets and Prices

To TickPick fans, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that TickPick’s prices are below the prices on TicketsNow. While TickPick doesn’t charge the buyer any fees at all, TicketsNow charges the buyer 18.5% of the ticket price and charges the seller 15%. So, if a ticket is listed and sells for $100, the end ticket price will actually be $115 for the buyer. The 15% ($15) is taken from the seller, who would receive $85.
