The show didn’t include the parade, rodeo, or Go Texan Day until nearly the 1940s when Bill Blanton took the lead, telling everyone to grow beards and wear spurs.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, also known as Rodeo Houston or HLSR, attracted over two million attendees to its 89th edition in 2022.

During the week before the world's largest livestock exhibition, people can visit the 350-acre NRG Park for events.

Attendees often sample almost 3,000 bottles of wine at the International Wine Competition. They also often dress in western attire on Go Texan Day, traditionally held the Friday before the rodeo begins.

Trail riding is one of the most traditional activities at Rodeo Houston, and visitors have been participating in this fun activity since 1952. In 2017, over 3,000 riders participated.

From Thursday to Saturday, at the wood-fire-only barbecue cookoff, the most skilled chef gets crowned the Grand Champion.

The Rodeo Parade kicks off the show on Saturday and runs through downtown Houston. Attendees also often join over 10,000 people in the Rodeo Run, which includes 5k and 10k runs to raise money for the show's scholarship.

The largest crowd usually comes for the annual Go Tejano Day. Tejanos are Tejas and Coahuila descendants who lived in Texas before it became a state. On Go Tejano Day, the performers and the attendees honor indigenous culture through music.

Los Tucanes de Tijuana performed in the 2022 Go Tejano Day. 2022's lineup also included household names such as Sam Hunt, Gwen Stefani, Khalid, Marshmello, and other popular stars.

The Houston Rodeo Livestock show takes place every year from February to mid-March.

Tickets to individual rodeo and concert performances go from $25 to $375, depending on the seating area. Season tickets, which cover all 20 evenings, go from $500 to $7,500. If someone wants to participate in many of the events but isn't interested in the rodeo or concert, Rodeo Houston also has single-day grounds passes and season passes.

Day passes go for $20 for people who are 13 or older and $10 for children from three to 12 years old. It’s free for toddlers two years old and under. Season grounds passes are $50 per person. Ground passes do not cover the park rides.
