Following Bobby Brown’s departure from the group, Johnny Gill appeared as his replacement starting with the album Heart Break. Following the album’s release, the group split to work on solo projects but reunited in the ‘90s with their album Home Again.

Ralph Tresvant, as lead singer, has a strong presence in all of New Edition’s songs. However, the most notorious member of the ‘80s music group was Bobby Brown, who sold millions of copies of his Don’t Be Cruel album.

After leaving New Edition because of infighting and to pursue his solo career in 1985, Bobby Brown returned to tour with the group in the 1990s.

Between “Candy Girl” and “Can You Stand the Rain,” it might be hard for some to choose what New Edition’s biggest hit is.

The R&B group has 16 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, with four songs that made it into the top 10. “I’m Still In Love With You” claimed the seventh spot and stayed on the charts for 20 weeks. “Hit Me Off” and “Cool It Now” claimed the third and fourth spots.

Home Again claimed the number one spot on the Billboard 200 the same day it debuted and stayed on the chart for 32 weeks. They have nine songs on the Billboard 200 Chart with two top 10 hits.

New Edition holds several awards and nominations over the expanse of the group’s music career, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They received their star in 2017.

The group has several Soul Train Awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, Best R&B/Soul Album for Home Again, and Best R&B/Urban Contemporary Album of the Year for Heart Break.

The group has never won a Grammy, but they received one Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group for “If It Isn’t Love,” performed on the Legacy Tour and previous tours.

Johnny Gill’s song “This One’s For Me and You” earned the group an Image Award nomination from the NAACP in 2017. In the same year, they won a BET Lifetime Achievement Award. They also received two nominations and one award from the American Music Awards for Favorite Soul/R&B Band.
