The band signed with Polygram Records as they gained notoriety in the Guadalajara region of Mexico for playing salsa rock and reggae fusions. They met obstacles early on with pressure from their record label to switch genres because they didn’t think they would sell well.

Instead, Fher Olvera and Alex Gonzales worked on a 4-track recording of what would become Falta Amor. They took the 4-track demo to Warner Brothers and received the budget to record their music their way.

The group’s commercial success didn’t hit until they released Donde Jugaron Los Ninos? in 1992. The second album became a commercial success, launching the group into its decades-long successful career.

Outside their successful music, the band also created the Selva Negra Foundation, a nonprofit whose mission is to preserve habitats and provide education on environmental conservation. This doesn’t surprise Mana’s longtime fans who grooved to the ¿Donde Jugaran Los Ninos? album released in 1992.

The group also established a scholarship fund for students that identify as Latinx.

The band took the name from the Polynesian word for positive energy or Maná.

The Latin pop-rock group has four members.

Fher Olvera is the group’s vocalist and guitarist. Alex Gonzales is the drummer. Sergio Vallin is the lead guitarist, and Juan Diego Calleros plays bass.

The band has two songs on the Billboard Hot 100. On the Billboard 200, the band has nine songs with two top 10 hits. The band also made the Artist 100 and Radio Songs charts. “Labios Compartidos” and “El Verdadero Amor Perdona” made it to the Billboard’s Hot 100 chart at 82 and 100, respectively. “Labios Compartidos” stayed on the charts for three weeks.

Amar Es Combatir and Drama y Luz claimed top spots on the Billboard 200.

The popular pop-rock band has many awards over their career, including four Grammy Awards. Their four Grammys include awards for Best Latin Pop, Rock, or Urban Album for Drama Y Luz, for Best Latin Rock, Alternative or Urban Album for Amar Es Combatir.

The group received two Grammy nominations for “Cuando Los Angeles Lloran” and “MTV Unplugged” for Best Latin Pop Performance.

In 2016 and 2017, the group received iHeartRadio Music Award nominations for Latin Song of the Year for songs “Mi Verdad” and “De Pies A Cabeza.” They received an MTV Video Music Award nomination in 2011 for Best Latino Artist, Premio Lo Nuestro Awards nominations for Song of the Year in 2022 and Video of the Year in 1994, and three other nominations from the Premios Juventud Awards.

In 2007, they won a Premios MTV Latinoamerica Award for Artist of the Year, and in 2016, they won a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
