About the Artists
One — Queen — is a legendary group, best known for the masterpiece “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and the other — Adam Lambert — is a Grammy Award-nominated artist best known for “Whataya Want From Me.”
Queen
Queen is a band created in 1971, and the original line-up was:
- Singer-songwriter Freddie Mercury
- Lead guitarist, vocals (and astrophysicist) Sir Brian May
- Drummer Roger Taylor OBE
- Bass guitarist John Deacon
Throughout the years, frequent collaborators included Paul Rodgers, Tyler Warren, and more.
Shortly after forming, the band enjoyed commercial success and signed with a label in 1973. They released their first album Queen in the same year and went on their first major tour of the UK.
By 1974, they headlined their first tour and crossed the Atlantic to do a North American tour. The band released A Night at the Opera and the iconic “Bohemian Rhapsody” in 1975.
Other famous songs include:
- “Killer Queen” from Sheer Heart Attack (1974)
- “Somebody To Love” from A Day at the Races (1976)
- “We Are the Champions” from News of the World (1977)
- “Don’t Stop Me Now” from Jazz (1978)
- “Radio Ga Ga” from The Works (1984)
- “Who Wants To Live Forever” from A Kind of Magic (1986)
Talk about a setlist! The band saw continued commercial and critical success through the 80s and 90s and are inductees in the UK’s Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
When it comes to the music that influenced Queen’s sounds, think Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, and Jimmy Page.
Adam Lambert
Born in Indiana before moving to California. Adam Lambert got his start in entertainment with his appearance in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, around the age of ten. Subsequently, he began pursuing an interest in theatrical musicals, including Grease, Chess, andJoseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Adam Lambert continued pursuing a career in the music and entertainment industries through 2009, when he became the finalist on American Idol in Los Angeles.
Soon after he gained popularity, he released the album For Your Entertainment which quickly claimed the number three spot on the Billboard 200. The artist continued to release commercially successful music through 2015 and soon joined the iconic and classic rock band Queen.
Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor first began thinking of collaborating with Adam Lambert long before hitting the road together. The story goes that inspiration struck when the rock legends heard the singer perform Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” on Season Eight of American Idol in 2009.
When it comes to Adam Lambert’s musical influences, think of great pop and rock stars like Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Aerosmith, Madonna, and, naturally, Queen.
